Do you canadians call this lake crooked pine lake? I've been trying to find a map of it with stuff like boat landings, or water depth. So I guess you guys now know where I'm headed fishing. I have the lake circle red. I asked my older brother about the lake and he said sometimes Canada names them differently. So maybe thats why I can't find any information on it.

Go to Google Maps and type in what you wrote Crooked Pine lake and it will pop right up. Or use my Hyperlink
Crooked Pine lake (http://http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=crooked+pine+lake&jsv=107&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=29.716225,59.414063&ie=UTF8&ll=44.961883,-79.466858&spn=0.413948,0.928345&z=10)

The nearest town is just east of there called Gravenhurst. I tend to know that area quite well, since I've worked area many times. Corv8 is slightly south of there and I'm further south in the city of Hamilton.
I do know the town and several back roads but the actual Lake name I'm not familiar. There are literally thousand of small lakes there. Beautiful countryside. When you look at Google maps you might see where this lake is no where near any main road. Sometimes there are roads there but they're hunting/fishing roads and even some old logging roads form years ago. If you know anyone to do with Crooked Pine lake maybe ask for direction when you get closer. Often if you go to a local marina they have those lakes on interrior maps

Also, you can dial up Crooked Pine Lake on Google Maps and copy the GPS coordinates and "follow your nose"
This time of year the moose come to the road side to get their share of road salt from the ditches in broad day light. During the rest of the hot summer, you'll barely see a moose. Boat landings, I'm not sure but I do know that Threemile Lake slightly more north is where our cottage is and docks, marinas, and boat landings coming out of the wazzo.

I'll do some research and a closer look and let you know

Too bad you don't have ham radio. We could link up through IRLP and I could guide you for most of the trip once you cross the border. I'm sure Corv8 will agree that you need to be careful when driving the 401 and 400 highways. Depending when you drive the highway you might find that drivers on those highways drive with blinders on and are not very forgiving.
The 401 cuts right across Ontario and has been labeled the busiest highway in North America.Once you get on the 400 north bound it's not as bad, but the boneheads still exist. If you're towing a trailer (boat trailer) make sure safety stuff is up to par. Our OPP (Ontario Provincial Police) same as your state troopers are getting tougher on trailer towing, wheel bearings, tires and inflation, hitch installs and lighting. I can't really blame them because we've had our share of crashes due cra.ppy trailers. They won't give you a warning. If your trailer is considered not safe, they'll take it off the road.

Thanks Porc, Now that I know a town area I can get a reference point. Actually I know a little about the rough roads, So I made a rack for my pickup to haul my 14 foot boat on. I'll be ready for logging roads if need be. My dad said there is like 1 or 2 islands on crooked pine lake and it's about 10 miles long. So that's a whopper of a lake. My dad stayed at a resort there years ago, but can't remember the name of it. So I'll find out when I get there. I figured you guys would know more about this place then my dad, so I had to ask :D

What I can do is send an email to the local tourism office for the town of Gravenhurst, also known as the Muskokas, very heavy for travellers and cottagers.

I'll name your lake and ask for a list of several resorts in the area.

I usually get good results. The only draw back is when the tourism office is open yet. Normally May 24th weekend. I'll ask their local city hall too. Give me a few days as I know their office is closed for the weekend off season

I have til july so no hurry. I came across in my search that crooked pine lake has a indian name (Lake Kikabikitchiwan) If thats correct then it must be in the reservation or close to it. I did find one lodge up there called Kelly's lodge. She had what species of fish was in the lake, musky, pike, walleye, and trout maybe. So sounds like a good lake. There is a island there if the wife gets out of hand I can leave her on it lol.

A lodge is privately owned and may not be listed as a resort. I'm sure there are reserves in that area. Musky for sure
Wife? if I give you five bucks would you take my wife? :D

Wife? isn't that WiFi? nevermind vetteonr will tell on me.

I looked up Lake Kikabikitchiwan and nothing. I also found jnothing on Kelly's Lodge. Still looking. There are some real awesome spots up that way. I've traveled that area all my life and always find some thing new and neat.
July? cool that will give us plenty of time

What amazes me, for such a big lake. You would think there would be lake maps and everything about it on the Internet. That lake is around the same size as minnesota's millacs lake. Oh well if worse comes to worse. I'll figure all that stuff out once I get up there. I'm pretty sure thats a deep lake. Dad said he had the bow of his boat on the landing and the back of the boat was in like 90 feet of water. Trout would be good for once. I haven't had trout for years. Maybe 12 years or so. This year I got to remember to bring my boat plug. Last year I was going fishing here in minnesota and forgot my boat plug. Couldn't figure out why my boat was taking on water until I looked in the back and No plug lol. Musky would be good also. They don't bite much in minnesota for some reason. Kelly's lodge www.sunsetcountry.net/CastAway

I have my gps with 48o 47' 4" N - 91o 5' 37" W. So now I can't get lost lol.

I sent an email last night to the local toruism for that area of Muskoka. I didn't think they'd be open but they were and I got a repsonse today.
This is her reponse...

I am not aware of C.P.L. but have two spots on Pine Lake; Pine Grove Cottages at 705-687-1063 and Pine Lake Cottages at 705-6897-2072. They are both popular . If you would supply me with your address I would be happy to send out information on Muskoka.

I also copied your original map and am sending it to her pointing out "Crooked" Pine Lake and see what she says.
I'll also send that link for Kelly's Lodge and she what she says about that too.
I told her to hold off on the mail until you decide what you want. If you do go for it you can send your mailing address to me via PM. Looks like we're getting closer to your goal :)

Ok Porc, Sounds good. I was kind of hoping to hear from Corv8 also being thats is back woods. I figured he might know where the boat landing was and all that stuff. Probably lives on that lake lol. Well when I get up there I hope I catch something. And not a cold, Just fish in my bucket. I'll be putting on my big tires for the trip up there. That way I can straddle over some stumps if need be. I figured getting to that landing will be a fun one. Almost tempted to bring up my arctic cat prowler.

I hope you realize that in July it will be in the 90s. We're further south than you. Corv8 lives just north of Toronto. This all depends what you refer to as back woods. I know for a fact that a lot of celebrities live in summer homes in these back woods secluded from society as best they can. They like it best away from the main grind of the city. We've seen many 1 to 10 million dollar homes in these quieter more remote areas.

the new breed of millionaire tend to move towards these areas, the lakes, the woods,(what they don't chop down), the fishing and still great access to these areas.
You might see a town called Port Carling just north west of Gravenhurst, not far from your lake. Port Carling it self is small and relies on summer vacationers. Often when you go into town for groceries or whatever there's always been a celebrity sighting of some sort, sports figure, actors and high profile executives. Gee maybe the guy that decides our gas prices is there. that gives me an idea ;)

Yeah it will be hot and humid I'm sure, but hopefully the lake is cooler. One resort up there I talked to has air conditioning which I will most likely have lol. Course thats just me, If I was at the north pole I would be ordering a air conditioner. But I figure with the wind off the lake should make a fun week up there. I bought a bunch of jigs today. So filling up my tackle box. Got 4 new fish poles. a big one, a ultra light, and two mediums. The big fishing pole and a reel that looks like my winch on my boat trailer lol. If the boat motor doesn't start I can't cast that baby in the trees and reel myself to shore.
