This past weekend, my wife, son and daughter-in-law and myself went to Silver Spring Maryland for a wedding. On the return trip home we dropped by a few places and one place that meant the most was Shanksville PA. You may recall during 911 that 2 planes crashed the twin towers, 1 into the Pentagon and the 4th plane crashed into a field, just outside a little sleepy town of Shanksville PA, minutes away from the Interstate.

I always wanted to go there to pay my respects, because if that plane ever did reach it's goal, the United States and Canada (North America) would not be what we are today. We were half way up the road heading towards the site and we all claimed that we had chills as we got closer. We parked our car and headed to the "viewing" area where an estimated 150,000 people visit annually.
Below and for the next few posts you'll see what we witnessed. We were'nt on the site 5 minutes and my wife and daughter-in-law broke into tears. My son and I were not far from it ourselves. Sorry, we have no words to explain what we saw or how we felt. There are no words. Maybe a thank you to the Heroes that saved our countries from further disaster. There is no gore to be seen, but lots of momentoes from those that visited from fire fighters to families to school kids on school trips that paid their respect.

The guide told us that the inferno was so intense that next to nothing was left, only the black box and data recorder were intact and told the story of the last minutes. The actual crash site was restored to it's original conidtion of a grassy field with a large fence surrounding the site itself and the American Flag.

PLEASE: This is considered to be a tribute. There is no political overtone. As you read this and see the pictures please feel free to comment. But there will be no hate postings of any sort.

Being a Canadian and with many of us having strong ties to the USA this is the best way for me to share and show my respect and say thank you to those that deservre a thanks more than most...the ultimate price was paid.
Like many of you I felt that strong sense of pride.

Thanks

This is the actual crash site, I had to use my zoom and because it was so far away, my camera did not do the site any justice.

You may recall one of the main hereos in the plane as Todd Beamer. There were sveral of these park benches with names of passgeners and crew scribed into the benches

Thank you. I hope to make it there some day. Among the momentos, I see some unit coins - most notably a Marine coin... RIP Heroes.

I knew there was markers, But didn't realize they had all that stuff. Pretty nice thing for the fallen.
