I recently viewed a segment on TV in West Palm Beach on WPTV 5. It was about a product called Hydro 4000. They took one of thier news trucks in and had it fitted with this product. Before it was installed they were getting 9.4 MPG, and afterwards they got 23 MPG. Does anyone know anything about this and if it is something that would really beneficial.

What do you want to know?

The whole thing in a nutshell is hydrogen boost. Hydrogen is generated from water by electrolysing the water. This breaks the water into it's basic components..hydrogen and oxygen...(H2O)....This is fed into the engine to supplement the fuel being used in the engine. Hydrogen is a very energetic fuel...it burns at 30:1 (30 parts air and 1 part hydrogen) Gasoline burns at 14.6:1...and ethanol 7:1.

Adding hydrogen also boosts the octane of the fuel being used, and the cetane of diesel fuel. (yeah, it works on diesels, too).

Not a new idea, though. During the second world war, Japan and Germany were critically short on petroleum products. So, they synthesized lubricants and fuel from coal. The major ingredient...hydrogen. Here in the USA, many people converted their cars and farm equipment to run on bio-mass fuel. Burning corn husks and wood chips, in a makeshift "converter" they drew off a gas that powered their vehicles....the gas was a combination of carbon monoxide and hydrogen. Hydrogen is released through a chemical process called pyrolytic gassification. When steam is passed over charcoal embers a liquid is formed. A crude form of "water gas" or "coal gas". Done correctly it can be burned in most internal combustion engines....
