I own a 1995 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. Both my Anti-Lock and Break lights are on. My breaks are very squeeky when i first start driving my car but after about a minute or so, the squeeking stops. Please tell me what is going on with my car. Could it be that i need to replace the breaks? PLEASE help. I have very little car experience, i know how to check fluids and change the oil, but that's it. Money is very very tight.

Maybe you should pull the wheels off and take a peek??

welcome to the forum.

brakes are nothing to play with, have a qualified person look at the problem. brake failure could not only get you hurt but maybe somebody else-responsibility is a big burden for some.

If the fuse for ABS is blown. Both the brake light and ABS light will be lit up on your dash.

Very good tip. This might cure the light problem, but the squeaking is what concerns me more. If you don't know what you're looking for, have someone who does take a look at them.

Some cars have rotors that rust overnight...and make noise until the rust is scrubbed off....I know, I had one once that sounded terrible until I got on the freeway in the morning...by the time I got to work, the brakes were silent.

Both the ABS and the brake light warning lamps are lit? The ABS fuse could be blown...but both lights also come on when the fluid level in the master cylinder is low....
