As some of you know we took a trip to Rockville Maryland to see my Daughter last week and we got a chance to go to Gettysburg for a few days. I took about 100 photos, but I'll just give you the highlights........

A lot of the grave markers are just these white bricks with just a number on them....

Looks like Vettonr and Mrs Vette :) got caught in the rain like we did back in June. When we were there last year it was 105 degrees. I love the heat but my wife was almost sick from it.
Al will admit that the pictures we took still does not justify the immensity of it all. I still want to go back again.

The one thing this picture does not justify are the monuments strecthed for as far as thye eye can see. Al took some great shots of those but deeper into the battle fields are seemingly a bzillion monuments and a story ofr each one for a fallen soldier or a mini battlle on the field.

last time we drove through there was some construction in the downtown core at the traffic circle.
Like I said Gettysburg is an awesome place to visit and to do it properly you would need two days. There were all kinds of tour buses. Personally, I found if you bought the CD tour there was a one hour and a 3 hour audio tour. The voices on the CD were kind of monotone, but if you were really interested in the history of it all it was easy to follow. Al, did you actually go in the vistor center? we missed that part due to heat

Thanks Al and Jerry for the pictures. They were really good but yet, really sad.
So many lost their lives.
Jerry, is there a web site on that video you bought? I would like to have that myself.

The video I bought was from the local souvenir shop in Gettysburg. The actors look to be from a local heritage society (very poor acting, but historically correct).
I'll check around to see what's available and if there's nothing I'll burn a copy of my DVD and send it to you. Same with the audio tour done by local people.

That guy on the left and right in those photos looks the stiffest. I hope he's not a permanent part of the exhibit.
The visitors center (the sign in my first photo), was a new building. I don't know when it opened. The old one was right across the street from the cemetery. If it was the new one you should have went in, it has AC. Your photos of downtown look familiar. Of course when we were there, there where about a million bikes there!

here's what I found on YOUTUBE and there're a few other videos on YOUTUBE plus some reenactments found under Gettysburg Civil War Reenactments. I found some were actually better than the one I have. Then there's all kind of history found in Google

I forgot to add these photos of a church that served as the surgical hospital when the battle broke out. It was the largest building at the time so they just carried all the wounded there. They layed soldiers on stretchers across the pews that are still there and did surgery in the basement. The arms and legs that where amputated where tossed out the window into the courtyard.

I went to Gettysburg about 15 years ago. Lot of yankees up there. I only had a few hours to spend there so I didn't get to see but just a small part of all that is there. I spent most of my time near the monuments honoring the Confederate Troops. There are some nice monuments up there.
When we was up there, there was an Apple Festival going on and the place was crawling with people.
I thought about riding up there for Bike Week, maybe I will next year.

Very nice pictures, It is great that we can still see our Nation History and have the freedom to drive around. I was over in Germany for nine years and I wish that I had a digital camera, I had a 35 Minolta camera, a lot of picture taking.
