I am 20 years old and I would love to own a motorcycle someday. I was hoping anyone had any suggestions on what to do so that I can own one in a few years or so. I would like to have a harley Davidson but they are expensive. Let me know what I should do. thanks!

I would suggest starting out with a Honda. Not a crotchrocket, but something more in line with a regular street bike. Then move up.
I had motorcycle "fever" at one time, and after 2 bikes, and unknown number of close calls, I quickly lost the "fever".

If you want to stay in the Harley family but can't afford one of the big twins you might consider a Buell Blast. It is a one cylinder, with a displacement somewhere around 500 cc's. It is much lighter than a full blown Harley and is a good place to start if you've never ridden before. Consider a Motorcycle safety course if this is your first venture into the world of Motorcycling. My first bike was a Kawasaki KE-175. It was a two cycle engine and was fun for awhile but pretty soon I wanted something bigger. The reason I mention this is that most people starting out, start out either too small or too big, so ask around and check out the sites on the internet. A good site for general knowledge is: www.motorcycleworld.com

Yes, a Harley Davidson cost more than the throw away rice burners but if you want to sell it later, most likely you will be able to get more than you paid for it. I was 27 when I bought my first and only bike and I got the biggest Harley I could find. The problem I had was everytime one went up for sale, it was sold quickly. I paid $2,500 for mine in 1985 and if for some reason I was gonna sell it now, I would have to get $12,000 to $15,000 for it. Can't do that with a throw away yamahonakawasukie. If you want the best, you have to pay for it.
The same thing happen to Harleys that happen to pick-ups. All these money people; bankers, doctors, actors ect... decided that it would be cool it they got one. But they want it to have a bunch of junk that shouldn't be on there so it will be all fancy so up goes the price. So, if we want one, we have to pay to play.

I agree with others. If you have never ridden a motorcycle buy a cheap used one so if/when it goes down you won't feel so bad about the damage.

Check your local Victory dealer. They have some great deals going on on left overs. I have a 1999 V92C and she now has 56,000 miles. My stock Vic will take any stock Harley except the V-Rod. Better HP, better handling and a lot better pricing. The engines are built in WI and the bikes are assembled in IA. Victory is owned by Polaris which is a company with a great reputation. Victory just came out with a new model called the Vegas. It is beautiful.
Check out their website at http://www.victory-usa.com/product/detail.asp?contentid=03VICVEGAS

I did 6000 miles in 12 days going to Sturgis this year. Just like I did last year.

As far as retail, research the Corvette in it's first years. Also if you buy an HD because of market value remember that it only works on low mileage bikes and they need to be in stock condition. Of course you will find the exception to this rule but that's what the HA are doing in this area. They keep all of the stock parts and put them on when they sell them.

I would like to see you on an American bike if possible. If you feel comfortible you could look into the new Indian, they have come out with their own motor so those models will not be considered a clone anymore.

If you have any questions about a Victory please feel free to shoot me an email.

"Trailers are for boats."

Also we have a member of the Victory Motorcycle Club that has over 100,000 miles on his 1999 V92C.
