I think that "89s10" kind of gave you a hint when he said that the 351 Windsor is an upgraded 302...If you're lookin' to increase the breathing, look no further than the local auto wrecking yard that has some 351W heads...from my feeble understanding, the heads will fit without much problem, Do a little research on the Ford enthusiast web sites, and they will have a wealth of information for practical and inexpensive upgrades. Check with someone that really knows Fords before you go out and get a set of heads that may not make a lot of difference.

fotw, is there a post between the front door and the rear door?
In other words, if you roll down the front window and the rear window on the same side, can you run your hand from the front door to the read door (in the area where the glass would be) without hitting anything?
Also, who changed out the original engine?

The 302 actually evolved from the 292, which still will exchange parts. The 289 was a similar block, but the bolt pattern and mounting points were an 1/8 inch different.

The 351W is a 302 block with longer stroke, and different heads. They will bolt on a 302, but you'll need a 351 intake after.

The 351C, 351M and 400M all share the same block, but bore and stroke are different.

The 289 is not based on the 292 block. the 292 is the socalled y-block which came out in 54 at 239 for the Ford and 256 for the Merc. It was upgraded to 272,292, and 312 then dropped in favor of the 289. But one part will interchange. The bore spacing is the same for both engines, so the crankshaft from either the 292 or maybe its the 312 crank can be used to create a 327 Ford.
Turn down the journals to 302 size and adjust the stroke to 3.25
add stroker pistons, balance everything and, like that.

please pardon my ignorance, i was under the impression that the 260, 289, 302 and 351w were in the same family.
