View Full Version : Problems with winning gracefully...........

Hello all, I'm Stormngt! I have heard much about your fine forum and have decided to join it myself. I really wanted to open the boards and get a feel for some Ford Fans? Im an avid Ford adic, but do occationally enjoy "the others". Im building a 89 Ford Ranger XLT with a 351W/C4 combo, I know its been done before but was wondering if this board knew of a completed and running story? I know special eng. mounts and headers are needed but havent seen it posted on where to get them? Again thank you all for a great forum and I hope to make many posts and Ford adics too!

Now about that post topic, if I may kick up some dust by asking: how do I win gracefully? I have had the advantage of driving Fords most of my life, while others seem to struggle making those bowties just run, I have raced my purebreeds to the finishline more often than most mopar gents. But what I am having trouble with is the graceful exit after I take home the win, I mean how do I not laugh, snicker or just ball my eyes out when Im pushing the chevy off the track? I just find humor in that GM now has a finance office setup to accept foodstamps for purchasing payments on HIPO parts! All in good fun, and thank you all for the invite especially my Pops-S10 Blazer, thanks Dad!

what wins, a bye run is not a win, and you cant count the moped that you raced, it had a flat lol

Stormngt

Yes S10 Blazer is the uglier of the Father/Son Team, but he has fallen to the Dark-side with GM products, even after a beautiful F150 that had great potential!

Nothing sez it better that the bumper sticker that reads......
"I'd rather push a Chevy than drive a Ford"
or the other one that sez......
"Friends don't let friends drive a Ford"

I must admit thought, that if it weren't for Fords, my day would be rather slow.....(check the screen name)

I think he's having a problem winning gracefully because it really doesn't happen that often and the euphoria of winning with a Ford is just overwhelming!

Was wondering if any of you were from the North? Because your dilutions remind me of temp snow-blindness! Ford's win more top places than any other breed of cars out there, yes it may take a few more $$$, but its worth it. You chevy guy are just sore sports! Graceful winning is a much rarer thing for you slowaros and vettles that your perception of wining is as big as your fish stories! Please feel free to keep the fire lit as I want all you chevy people to vent your frustrations of lose and denial as this is what this forum is for. Feel free to lean on your Ford buddies when the going gets tough and it might help if you losen or just lose that bowtie! LOL

i have a 351w powered ranger. it is a 97 ranger. for exaust ive got headers then pipes that go all the way back and one exits where the gas cap was (it has a fuel cell in the bed) and the other on the oppisite side. flowmater single chanbers on each side. for mounts ive got soild motor mounts. this isnt a street legal truck tho, its an off road racer so thats why i did solid mounts and the exaust taht i did.

I dont think any one on this forum actually is serious about the joking about car makes and model, I like to joke myself, but name calling and getting pissed is out of place, the car wars is going on everywhere, the strip, the auto store and where ever there are more than one type of model. I have had some of all and have good memories with many. peace man!!

SEEMS WE STILL HAVE SOME SORE LOSERS AMONGST US??? I AM SORRY FOR ALL THESE SPORTING EVENTS FORD IS JUST KILLING THE OTHER COMPETITION, BUT LOOK AT IT ON THE BRIGHTER SIDE-AT LEAST ITS AN AMERICAN MADE CAR DOMINATING THE SPORT? AND CANT WE ALL JUST GET ALONG, REALLY GM MAKES A GREAT ATEMPT AT PRODUCING FINE AUTOMOBILES, ITS JUST FORD DOES IT BETTER!

I will just tell it all right here, I went to a little car show the other day, it was about 50 degree's out. There were about 20 -25 cars there. Well, there were some fords there, 40's and 50's era, out of the 5 old Fords there three had small block Chevy engines. Why? I bet the reason is parts are cheaper and the small block was unchanged for so long. If I were to have a 49 merc or ford I would want it to be all ford. That is just me, But if you want the 49 to run on the streets of today and the speeds of most highways, the small block is a easy install with unlimited assecories. I really do just joke about the ford stuff, I will say that the word "ford" is even in my middle name (Clifford) and I was even born in Dearborn Michigan. I have had more Fords than I will admit, and out of my fast cars owned list, I will admit that the 69 Mustang was the strongest car I have ever owned or rode in, period. I am a Mopar of the past lover, but the present Mopars are even more stronger than my favorites from the past. The new Hemi trucks and the Viper, are just plain strong. I love the style of the PT Cruizer. But If I won the lottery and could buy what I want, Well the Hummvee comes to mind first. But the GM made trucks is where I would spend my money. And for any one who would like to see a article about a CJ jeep with a viper V 10 motor in it, send me a PM with your email address and I will send you the site to view for yourself. It is a awsome vehicle and I have it bookmarked. I am of to dinner now..

With the exception of Top Fuel, Funny Car, GM rules in NHRA. Yes I know John Force uses a Ford body, but its not powered by Ford. And he is the one I pull for, but he drove GM bodies for years. Next post out of wighting space

Even when Bob Glidden was racing I pulled for him every time even though I'm a GM all the way. But Bob Glidden is really good, but he couldn't get those " FORD's " down the track. And Pro Stock Cars uses same make engines as the body. And I don't see any FOOORRD's out there.LOL

He is stubborn on the Ford issue, We will probally fist fight when I get to Detroit for the AutoRama. He will be on one side and me on the other, He is really a true ford fan. His garage is full of enough ford parts to build a new car if needed. He is really set up for ford and it would be like a career change for him now this late in the game, he built one car that had such a hard launch that I was, of all things to worry about, I was concerned about the bolts in the seat where it connects to the floor, my 285 lbs was sure to break the seat loose. That was his 302 build up. He now has a 351 and believe me he goes all out on his engines. He got the desire from me, but has surpassed anything I was ever able to do. I would watch the early Shadtree and My Classic Cars show and go out and just start to clean things and paint or chrome them. He see's them and takes his heads off and rebuilds the top end. But a ford engine is like a NHRA engine; a couple of runs and it is ready for a rebuild anyways.lol

Hello Vettoner, I am leaving on Thursday night and probally will sleep on Friday, I plan to be at the show all day Saturday. I will look forward to seeing you there as well. My son has mailed me the events list and I know you will be at the Corvettes 50th display. Closer to the date, we could set up some time frame to meet. I will have most of my family there with me and it will be a great time. Also meeting another member from this forum if nothing else to say hi and shake hands will be a added benifit of the trip made up there as well. I look forward to this and I wish I was able to get to the auto show this week as well, from what I read about it, it was the place to be.

I have seen the mustangs next offering, I watched a show on tv about the auto show. I do like the back to the past look of the front and did you see the special one being offered by a company that has like 435 horse power. I am not happy that the camaro laid down and I dont see me getting a (dream-car) Vette, unless it is a chevette lol.

vetteonr
01-20-2003, 10:39 AM
I have seen the concept mustang at the auto show last week. I must say it does look like the last good mustang they built, the 1970 Boss. First the T-Bird, now the mustang, why is Ford building cars that look like their old ones? No imagination? No fresh ideas? What happen to that "better idea" Ford was supposed to have? What's next, a new Pinto concept?

Stormngt
01-20-2003, 10:39 AM
Dont make light of the chevette! I have seen a 400hp chevette eat Vette's for breakfast, now I ate that same car for lunch, but I was driving my trusty Ford, just goes to show there is always bigger fish in the sea of drag racing!

to the word "trusty" in your post and remove the "T" and then hit save changes.. I seen a cadillac 472 in a chevette in Hot Rod and the trans was next to the drivers butt. the carb was where the radio should be. It was a wild ride done for fun. they just chopped it up, it was not meant for nothing other than the article.

Again I am glad to step up to the plate to defend my beloved Ford Motor Company, Ford likes to keep cars for longer running periods and style of the autombile are just like the styles of fashion. No one complained when the youth starting wearing those corny bell-bottom pants and die-tied shirts again? We all know you cant please em all, but the millions on 1 side have to disagree with your thoughts. If you follow the habits of Chevy's trial and errors like the monte carlo, impala and its slowmaro then Ford should have just dropped the production line instead of redesign??? Whats that saying? :no one likes a quitter? In this case thank you Chevy for waving goodbye to the Slowmaro!!!!

And a wild thought, I'd be the first inline to purchase a redesigned PINTO, as long as it isnt combustable!!!! LOL

Trader Ray
01-20-2003, 10:54 AM
all in fun First in line and a day late all at the same time. Chevy dropped the camaro to come with a pickup that is all new in the truck line that will clearly be supperior to all the current model trucks. New for 04, called the colorado. It is replacing the S series trucks. They are keeping up with the times and making a commitment to the future, at the expence of the camaro.

Stormngt
01-20-2003, 11:26 AM
Bottom line: keep American's working! Drive and support the country you work for! If you prefer GM and I Ford's that a preference, but if we choose Toyota over USA we feed their children not ours! All in good fun, I too liked the look of the Colorado and their other line of the truck but forgot its name? If I had it my way I'd be driving a Hummer and that wears the Daimler-Chrysler badge!

Trader Ray
01-20-2003, 12:03 PM
I am thinking that the Hummer is a product of Gm. I thought that was what the AM General was all about. However, I agree. If I could get one I would be happy, the hummer II is a great looking vehicle with the horse power to boot. 315 of them with 360lb-ft or torque. And yes, buy American. A lot of people in the us dont know how when the imports hit strong in the 80's, how much they did hurt everyone. Now they are here, but I was affected by the move to imports long ago in my wallet and the whole Detroit area was impacted as well. That is one of the dis-advantages of being in a car town. Now imports owned cars are being built here, and they do feed and house us. There was a time when that was not the case.

danny
01-20-2003, 10:02 PM
i am sure that the general will return the f-body line when they see the void they created. both ford and gm are guilty of returning the namesakes of yesteryear-ford with the t-bird and chevy with the impala etc etc. i knew a guy that always talked about his 'vette, it was an '80 model with a 350, it was some time before i saw it and it turned out to be highly modded chevette, i almost died when i saw it, it had all the go fast goodies and light weight, didn't turn worth a crap but straight line acceleration was awesome

I think his desire of the Hummer shows a inner cry that he indeed see's the life he is missing under the long and powerfull arm of the General. I better becarefull as he may try to talk me out of the Blazer when I get up there..lol. he would have to put up a good plead.

That's what the military dropped on Afghanistan. Pintos explode on impact. That's why a cargo ship full of pintos was spotted headed for the Persian gulf. I can see it now.......beep beep, hey Sadaam, your rides here!

Trader Ray

Yea, it is a hard thing to take when one is such a die hard ford fan and has to be surrounded by so many Chevrolet titles. Parts are so high for the ford to only see the rear of a chevy. I better lay off or I may get mine. I know he will be replying with a smiling face..lol

danny
01-26-2003, 01:18 PM
ahh, he seems like a nice guy. i like to have a little controversy every now and then, i really do not have a preference of cars as they all break down and all require maintenance-what did i just say? i didn't mean that, must be the new battery in my cell phone-lol

Trader Ray
01-27-2003, 01:07 AM
new battery huh lol Yea he is is a good sport most of the time and lets me ramble on. He is a very determined young man that has had some very big moves in his life. I am proud of him and I envey his tools and garage set up..

danny
01-27-2003, 01:39 AM
it is good that you are proud of him, at least he's into something good(cars) and not something that will land him in jail or dead. it's good to have a hobby even if it involves working on fords.lol

vetteonr
01-27-2003, 10:20 AM
Yes sir, and with a Ford, it's a good bet he will always have something to work on. lol

Trader Ray

Yea, he wont admit it but he is always thrashing on his Fords..lol

is that why he's not here now-working on/fixing his ford?

Trader Ray
01-28-2003, 03:08 AM
Just a thought, people work on there Fords and imports and then when it is time to go on to better and bigger things, they get a ride in a General Motors Cadillac.

Trader Ray
01-30-2003, 03:13 AM
Sorry for the back road to what I was saying, like in the song by Confederate Rail Road, Daddy was never the Cadillac kind. I was refering to people and their final ride, to the cemetary. Usually in a Cadillac. The reason I spoke of this is it is ironic that brand loyal people drive their fords or bikes or what ever, yet when they pass on, the last ride is in a Cadillac. And one I hope is years away for all of us or ours.

vetteonr
01-30-2003, 10:14 AM
The only caddy I want to see for awhile is on the golf course. lol

danny
01-30-2003, 12:06 PM
i know what you meant, i was just saying that my brother is not mecanical and has resolved to driving a caddy eldorado('88), he has had to do minor work but prefers to have it done. he is of the mind that a car like the cad doesn't require as much work as that rest.

Trader Ray
01-30-2003, 01:18 PM
poor guy. I guess he would be surprised with a visit to a automotive recall site. He may have all the luck and never see a problem that is out of the ordinary. There by never believing all the other stories about car problems.

danny
01-30-2003, 08:38 PM
he makes me laugh, the wife's car is an '88 olds 98 and even he has said the olds rides better than his. i/we haven't had to do much to the olds yet-must be time to sell-lol

Trader Ray
01-31-2003, 01:45 PM
You probally are right, although there is no car like the oldsmobile with a true olds engine.

danny
01-31-2003, 04:00 PM
yeah i like the olds engines but this one has the 3800, runs good and get great mpg.

Trader Ray
02-01-2003, 02:36 AM
I had the 3800 in a car and the gas mileage was great as you said, it had all the power you could need. I drove over 430 miles on one tank of gas and still had a quarter tank when I refilled.

lol Man that is harsh. Good but harsh

danny
02-03-2003, 01:11 AM
i think you meant to say that is what most ex ford owners say, there is another saying-80% of ford trucks are still on the road, the other 20% have been towed home--lol

I like that one. I will use it tommorrow at work..thanks

chevyguy1
02-03-2003, 01:15 AM
actually it was a merc, same thing, and i loved it but had nothing but problems with it. 67 cougar xr7 351c, c4, 9" rearend. it was actually pretty quick when it would run. it was the only car i've ever seen that wouldn't start for a week and the you turn the key one day and it would run like it was brand new...i could never figure it out!!! that was a true love-hate relationship!!!

chevyguy1
02-03-2003, 01:18 AM
i guess that just proves there isn't much of a difference in a brand new ford and one being sent to the junk yard. lol

Trader Ray
02-03-2003, 01:21 AM
I had a 69 Couger. It was basicly what you described, I think the 67 and 68 were not hidaway headlights. The 69 I had was. A fast car indeed.

chevyguy1
02-03-2003, 01:25 AM
they did have the hidden headlights. mine actually worked. it was a mustang with more chrome that's all. mine came original with the 289 and it had a 351c when i bought it. it was pretty fast but i wouldn't consider it a hot rod or anything. it just didn't have the feel. it was fun beating up on mustangs with it, but i had a caprice that could do that... lol

Trader Ray
02-03-2003, 01:44 AM
Havent seen a nice one in a few years now.

chevyguy1
02-03-2003, 01:56 AM
i saw a 67 in an old car trader when i was looking for my chevelle (about a 6 weeks ago). i think it was in oklahoma and in pretty good shape, rust free anyway. and they were only asking 3500 for it. i guess they don't hold much value anymore. i think everyone is after the mustang since gone in 60 seconds.lol
liek they are really going to own an eleanor... hehehe

actually i saw the real eleanor at the volo antique auto museum and it is unreal. that is one bad@$$ car. couldn't believe it was a ford!!! lol
it has a sound that would give you an orgasm. i know bcuz it almost happened to me!!! lol

danny
02-03-2003, 01:57 AM
i think that ford used the cougar as a luxury mustang, most of the ones i've seen had power windows and all the lux items

chevyguy1
02-03-2003, 02:07 AM
that's basically what mercury itself is. look at the later model cougar and ltd. then the grand marquis and the ltd. then the grand marquis and the crown vic. now they have the marauder which is an interceptor crown vic with tinted windows and chrome rims. look at a 49 mer and a 49 ford, do you know how many things are exactly the same on that car?
oh i forgot the mercury capri and the ford mustang of the 80's.
and i don't believe power anything was an option on the 67 68 69 cougars, i know nothing was acailable on the 67 cougar and i had the xr7 which was supposed to be the "DELUXE" model...lol

Trader Ray
02-03-2003, 11:27 AM
And the Granada and Maverick, and Pinto/Bobcat fiasco. MY Michagan Cougar had no trunk, well it was wooden. The 351 would smoke the tires to no end with no weight back there, Fotw, you would not need no bleach line with that car. But I loved the (spelling) seqenqial tail lights. The 69 was the only one with the reverse lights in the tail lights upper corner I think.

danny
02-03-2003, 11:41 AM
i had a '69 cougar xr7 and was under the impression that they all came with the power options as a standard, the one i had came with a 351w, it was black with a white interior-nice car but it got hungry for a grand prix and tried to eat the bumper-bad cat, i sold it the next week, the damage was minimal and the guy that bought it was happy.

Trader Ray
02-03-2003, 11:53 AM
I am not sure, but I think the power assecories came with the start of the 70. My old cougar hit a street light and a telephone poll that were side by side. The front end looked like a big W. It was in fact the car I owned when stormngt was less than a year old. Maybe it is my fault, his weekness for a Ford that is..lol

danny
02-05-2003, 07:10 PM
he was not born in that car was he? maybe this is the result(his liking of fords) of his anger towards you for not having a chevy back then, you will have to suffer until he feels that you have had enough. lol

chevyguy1
02-06-2003, 08:30 PM
no that's not it danny. it will take a couple hundred solenoid replacements!!! lol my buddy had a 74' camaro when i had my cougar and i changed solenoids all the time. i asked why he never changed his and his response was it didn't take him a half tank of gas and 20 minutes cranking the engine to get it to run!!! lol he was right, what a piece of crap. i will not own another ford unless i somehow get rich enough to keep a mechanic on duty 24 hours a day!!!

Hey s10 were you ever in one of our 4 military services? Because I watch the discovery channel, and that's when I learn what MRE's were and how they were made. There also trying to prepare peanut butter sandwiches and dessert packages but hasn't had any luck as of yet. Where do you get these packages and are they expensive?

The guys that were interviewed in the military said that some of them tasted pretty good. But I don't know if they had a gun pointed towards their heads to say that are not LOL.

But I would say they tasted very good also if I were stuck in some of the places they were and couldn't get a good home-cooked meal. That stomach doesn't care what it taste like. You have to believe that they had nutrition, at least I hope so.

No I never served, but would have if I was eligable. Some of the meals are good, I had two ham steaks that were great. They went first! lol I think you can buy one at any Amry surplus store. I was given about 15 of them and have only the low desirable ones left. But in a pinch, they are loaded with carbs to give you energy and even the cooking pouch can be used to make a low impact bomb, I dont know how, it has something to do with closeing the pouch after activating. I dont think they have a web site, but the company that packages the three I have left is cinpac, INC. Cincinnati Ohio. 45212 I have three left, tuna with noodles and chilli and macaroni. YUM YUM
