The shifter thread in the episodes forum got me thinking about an annoying problem I have with my car.... it's a 1990 Ply. Laser.
The shifting in this car is terrible. I know there is some kind of generic problem with these vehicles because other owners have complained to the dealers about the same thing. They are hard to put in gear and the throws are not positive and requires a bit of skill to make the gears without a miss or slight grind under all driving modes. I had the dealer put in synthetic gear lube and that was a bit of an improvement but still not very good. I bought the car new and have never abused it so this condition is not due to beating. There's 54,000 miles on it. Any of you folks out there had experience with this or know more about this problem? I don't know if it's a gearbox problem or shifter problem or both. Is there anything else I could do the make this car shift better?
