I'm restoring a 1968 Camaro and the original glass in the car looks like the glass is dirty even after cleaning with windex several times. Has anyone got any suggestion on clearing this up.

To remove lots of tarnish use some oven cleaner. Put it on your rag and wipe it down. Don't spray it cause it will get all over your paint. This will leave a light residue on the glass but then go over it with some good glass cleaner, like eagle one or some of that stuff they advertise on this web site. Windex is for indoor use not for 90 mile in hour bugs on the glass.

hope I could help

Usually with a very good glass cleaner the oven cleaner is not needed.

I spent many years detailing old cars. The best thing I ever found to clean glass is steel wool. Super fine steel wool that is. Test it in a small inconspicuous area to make sure it doesn't scratch your windows. Like under were the wiper blade sits. I say this as a precaution. I have never scratched a window using super fine steel wool, and I used it on buffer wheels at a couple thousand rpm's. It actually buffs the glass to an extent.

Let me know how you do!!

Hey shecool2:

The Eastwood Company also sells a glass polishing kit if your windshield is in bad enough condition.

Here's a link to the specific page on their website where it describes it. (http://www.eastwoodco.com/cgi-bin/sgin0101.exe?T1=40011&UID=2001081520234399&UREQA=1&FNM=20)

Hopefully it isn't that bad, but fear not, there's help out there!
