This is Quoted from Jeff M:
GM is killing us with parts pricing. I found a few months ago that the cost of the ABS Pump Motor Relay just shot up from $76 retail to $350 retail (it now comes with a new pump/motor, no thanks, I know TGP owners with over 200k on original pump/motor). Next I found that the Accumulator (which helps take out the relay from it being low on charger and cycling the pump/relay too often) jumped from a retail of $174 (I sold them for around $80 when I could get them at this price) to a new retail of $500!!! There is also 2 hard-parts in the tranny that shot up in price recently, the 4th clutch hub was around $90 retail, and is now $350, and the reverse reaction drum that was about $75 retail is now $220!!! When I asked my local GM parts guy what could be done, if me calling GMSPO (GM Service Parts Operations) was the best idea he said no, the best he recommended was to have all my TGP friends and owners call 1.800 Pontiac Cares so, WE NEED TO DO THIS TO HELP ALL OF US OUT!!! What our winning point should be is this, owners of a 12 to 13 year old car cannot afford to pay these prices for a car that may of only cost the owner $1,000 to $3,000 to begin with. The cost of these parts have gone up over 300% in one shot and that is totally ridiculous. IF, and it should be the one last thing that gets their attention is what they like calling Brand Loyalty, they will only upset current Pontiac GP/TGP owners with such acts of parts pricing and that we will never buy a Pontiac or GM car again, this pricing is no way to develop Brand Loyalty!!! The internet is a very powerful tool and it has been said that all it takes is someone knowing 5 people, who each know 5 more and so forth to get a hold of everyone on the net, we will be heard and it will hurt if GM/Pontiac does not retract these exorbitant price increases for parts on a 12 to 13 year old car and cease on any more. Now, I am still way too busy to do the rest of the research such as confirm the 1.800 number to call, and an address to send letters and/or emails regarding the same but if someone could help out, it would be helping themselves and every other TGP owner!!

Now as for the accumulator and other things we need and I can help out on, I have one accumulator here that I can look into that is not a GM part but from another manufacture, but I do not like the nut used to attach it, the nut is behind the big fat round accumulator, ending up near the firewall area which is a hard job to handle. The GM piece has the nut on the outside end where it is much easier to get to. The relay can be taken apart and the contacts cleaned and the contact arm aligned to make use of new meat, but this is not a job for everyone. I have sources for the tranny parts but still, the market dictated by GM’s price has raised these as well. Non the less, we need to get these parts priced back down where they belong, and make a point loud enough so as to stop who ever is making these increases, my guess is someone there in GMSPO is lining his job to try to impress the new big guy at GM (Bob Lutz) but is shooting himself in the foot if it burns current GM/Pontiac owners who might be looking to buy more GM parts for their prize possession, or considering going newer like the Supercharged GTP (that is still making the same hp it came out with 6 years ago, but that is another story so don’t get me started), we won’t do it and no one would after this sort of treatment, time to change brands it the point they need to understand we will go!!!

OK, I am off my soapbox, but we need to do this for all. Thanks in advance from me and to all of us for everyone that pitches in on this problem.

Always concerned
Jeff M

That's interesting, DaimlerChrysler has done that also. I can tell by your list of very cool cars that you are not a Mopar fan but I've noticed that in the last year Mopar parts has gone through the roof also. There is a little plastic push in clip that holds the plastic fender liner to the wheel well. It used to be 29 cents retail, now this part is $3.25 retail. And that's not even a real hi tech part like the ones you've mentioned. It's almost like they want us to dispose of our older cars and rush back to them to buy new.

That is the exact purpose... to drum up new car sales. in 1970, the average person owned a car for 15 years, in 1975, avg Joe owned one for ten years, 1980 eight years, 1985 two years, and if it keeps going, only leases will be available before long... Save a classic, kill the new car dealers...LOL

Not all dealers are created equal........

I'm looking for a dome light for a '96 Caprice (X Cop Car) GM P/N
22637725. Of the 6 Chevy dealers here in Phoenix, only 2 had the same price...$39.20...

Prices from the other dealers were $68.95; $47.00; $39.80 and $36.40...... So, shop around. If it was a level playing field, Crate Motor advertising would be useless and a waste of money....

they are only jacking up prices to get us to buy new cars. but more importantly its aimed at the do-it-yourself people. because on most of these new cars, they are so high tech and computerized that you need a phd in computers and electronics to work on them, so guess who your only option is to get something fixed. the dealer. i havent seen chevy parts really go up yet, but its probly just a matter of time. although over $200 for 2 rotors and 2 clipars is pretty steep

honda rotors are $12 a piece. We just order new rotors for our coustomers because they are cheap, they save the time of cutting the old ones and they come with a warrenty. I needed the heads rebuilt in my buick and didnt have the time to do it so I got it done from some local shop for about $1,500 but the real kicker is that most of it was parts. It was $80 for plug wires, $50 for plugs, $175 for the gaskets, and on and on. It was all from the local delar so it was all delco parts and such. I also needed some new sun visors and they are $75 each! I didnt get the visors. The window latch in my truck busted and they want $58 for a new one and I have to wait because the only place that has them is in texas. I also was going to get some of those TRD stickers for my truck but they are $51.27 each. That means over $100 for 2 stickers. Its ** if you ask me. I bet its because of all of the kragens and autozones taking away from the parts divisions of the makers.

Around here a subsidiary of Ford has bought up junkyards. Talk about forming a monopoly.

Add some Capitals and punctuation to your reply. I had to read it several times. I think I got the point you were making. Buy a Honda because "Cheap Parts" will be available.

Here is some help.

"You know why honda parts are cheap? All of the frames and other things have been the same for years. Maybe a little body styling and etc. But, we are talking about older cars which parts are rare. For a honda, you could buy a part that would fit almost any year."
