A friend of mine just got a '86 Iroc-z with a 305 high output. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what changes are made to make and engine High Output. I'd appreciate any educated responses.

High output engines usually have a different intake manifold and maybe a wilder cam. There really isn't that much difference, but it's enough to notice.

If you mean the carbed 305 L-69, that motor has 9.5:1 compression, cylinder heads from the Crossfire Injection motor, an aluminum dual-plane intake manifold and a cam from the L-82 Corvette. Just your average parts-bin motor. Rated at 190 hp in a Camaro, 180 hp in a Monte SS. It will respond well to mods, start with headers, exhaust, and a decent cam.

Yeah, little things that add up. I have the LG-4 305 in my 1987 Z28, & managed to scrounge up a HO air cleaner (dual snorkel assembly) to try to help mine without going to mechanical with the motor.
