im in great distress I have a 1979 chevy caprice classic impala 4 door and i took it to the drag strip this weekend. I ran a 16.4 and for a 5000 pound automatic car thats not so bad but, i have 3 guys ( 96 b 4000 , 97 camaro , and a 93 integra) who think they can beat me. Not to mention all those **** mustangs right in front of me. Im a chevy guy and i only want my car to beet the gt mustang and any stock foriegn compact. So i need to shave a sec or 2 of my time what can i do.
here is what ive done so far:
rebuilt 350
cam with somewhere around 407 lift
new everything crank pushrods lifters pistons
accel distributator with 8.8 mm wires(autolite sps)
edelbrock performer intake, valve covers,k/n air filter
fuel pump
water pump
i left the stock rochester q jet (4 barrel)
exaust manafolds
my exaust goes from the manafolds into the gutted cat and thats it
i plan to put some headers on but i cant find any good ones that will fit my car and i also plan to put on a new carb i want to put on an edelbrock 800 cfm is that to big for my car??
i did a horse power test on the internet telling it i had a 5000 pound car and i did the 1/4 in 16.4 it said i had 320 at the fly and 280 at the rear wheels. is that about correct.
if you have any ideas please tell me thanx,
adam

bang for buch N2O! hit the botton and bye bye.
edelbrock sells a system for carb setups for $350 out of summit or Jegs mail order.
mounts a plate under the carb but you have to install an electic fuel pump cause the mechanical pump cant keep up.
good luck
get a newer94-96LT1 caprice and dust them! x cop cars go for about 2500bucks and run a 15 second 1/4 stock @ 93 mph
I wasted a 2.2 Vtech civic last nightin my 94caprice. he had the rims-finn-stickers and the FOLGERS can exhaust tip.

yeah i thought about nitros but i though i would go for the big power with a supercharger. Im still considering nitrus. Do you have any advice on what kind would be best on my car. Remember im trying for a 14 sec car, can i do that with nitros that wont blow my engine. My other prob is i am trying to build a bad *** engine and the drop it in like a 69 -82 vette or maybe an 80s camaro(1500 less pounds)so nitros might not be a good idea yet. I was thinking maybe a bigger cam like 280 magnum by comp cams and maybe a edelbrock air gap intake.
with roller rockers and lifters.

edelcrap carbs- go with a holley!
your engine looks like a good prospect for juice. what RPM stall do you have? Is it a turbo 350 tranny? what gear ratio is the rear end? What were you 60' times with that 16.4 time slip? What was the MPH?
What size and type of tires do you use?
its more like 4000lbs!
97 camaro Z28 285HP and uver 300 lbs of torque and run mid 14's stock. 98 z28 run 13's stock
93 vtech 16second cars or slower unless$$$
96 B 4000 I dont no what this is???

Yeah its a 350 tranny it has the stock converter and i have no clue what gears but seeing it get so high up in the speed it prob got some were in the 3.23. or something i dont know much about that. it did 86mph in the quarter mile and my car weights like 4700pd thats what the title says and plus i have a 20 gallon gas tank and it was full. i run p 215 75 15 tires
i dont know the 60 ft time the slipps are in the car and ill give them to you next time im on. the car is at my house and im at a friends. I would run a holley but i dont want it to flood my car like it does my friends. The edlebrock 800 get 22 more horses than and holly but if i did get a holley what kind would you recamend.

Hey buddy
you should be able to put a hurt on stock imports.
Its the tuned ones you have to look out for...whatch out V8's then new generation of HP is coming up pretty fast and pretty hard. I was in FL visiting my cousine who has a team and a shop. His drag team has a 9.2 second all motor honda. Not to mention it is weight reduced to 900lbs!!!!!! The show group in my cousines team has a few hp bolt ons that make my car look slow :( but my car is all in the works. Look into a new motor maybe a 400 CI block. I have a friend with a 400CI block that runs 10.5's on it. 9.5 on the bottle. (150shot) its a 1968 Camero weighing around 3500lbs I believe not 100% positive of that.

Personally I would use a speed demon or king demon carb. with a 150 hp nitrous set up. and lose some more weight. increase tire size for more biting pad. transfer battery to the trunk with a relocation kit. are you using this car as a race only or an everyday cruiser. If race only then you really don't need those back seats in it. Hedman can also custom make you some headers.

i have a 78 caprice 350 i built a 386 stroker out of the 350 block and ran a 500 lift cam w/triple 2bbl carbs for just over 460 hp at the tires you might not need that kind of pwer but you can look into lightening the load by pulling anything not absolutly nessasary to runing the car also an underdrive pully system will give up between 5 and 10 horses a raceing driveplate and lighter rims can help to try not having so much gas in the tank its not only lighter but less likly to kill you if you crash anyway i hope this helps you some have fun with your sleeper

Quick fix....Sell it and buy a Ford...No really buy a Ford its better. Im not lying. But if you stay with the bowtie then try bore"n" it out to a 383 get supercomp. ****** headers.(I didn't read the whole thing)Put twin turbo. I would go vortech supercharger but thats just me. NOS. EFI. Hiflow cat. Flowmaster 2 chamber. 3 1/2 exhuast. K&N airfilter. Alum. heads. 3.73 rear end gears. try this lower your front 1inch. And get a shift kit. if you have some of the stuff I'm putting down. Sorry Im repeating it. Bosch plugs. And maybe 9mm wires. Thats all I can think of right now.
BUT YOU ARE BETTER OFF BUYING A FORD.
The Heartbeat stops here.
or....
Only little boys were bowties.(I like the other one better.)
Hope this helped.

I'm not an expert but i'll throw some ideas at you.
For some minor horse power attachments you could try msd ignition, a 1" or 2" swirl carb spacer, underdrive pulleys, electric water pump and fan, 3" exhaust or even a bigger fuel line.
If you really wanted to go, try a pair of World or Dart stage 2 aluminum heads. Get your motor stroked and a roller valve train.
Go for about 9.5:1 to 10:1 compression in my opinion.
A good launch combo if you have around 450 hp (so i've been told) is a 3500 stall torque convertor a turbo 350 with a shift kit and a 3.73 or 4.11 gear in the back axle.
For me adding Nos is a mistake since it shortens your motors life span and it can be costly. Beside Chevy don't need Nos to go.
Hope this helps!
