Just to let anyone know who is in Charlotte, NC that a new shop will be openning in early January. The name is not yet decided, but if you autocross, drag race, or just want your sport compact to stick it out (or with the right platform, destroy) the monster blocks in town, we have your solutions. Port and Polishing, Nitrous systems, custom turbo applications, you name it. Labor is per job and very reasonable. Ask to see our 350 HP Miata, or our 450 HP RX-7 (and yes, the miata is a 4 cylander, and the RX-7 still has the rotary in it). I'll be around so ask me questions. Also, Monster block guys....we have a machinists from a local NASCAR Racing team who can port & polish your heads to make some serious power at very reasonable prices.

It sounds like the Fast & the Furious for real! I have been looking at some of the cars that are front wheel drive and racers. I see a lot of the wings on these cars and like them, some are over kill, but there are some great looking cars that seemingly will need your services.

You should get a site up

Yes, a web site would help you get out the good word on your shop. As if you did not know. I visit all the web pages of the members of this forum and I am sure I am not the only one.

Thank you for the support! Its nice to hear that people want to see a new shop make it.

As for the wings.....I agree. Some are nice, low profile, adjustable, and they match the cars stylings. Others.....ughh.....like when you come to a stop sign and the guy infront of you has a CRX wishing it was a Super B! "Air traffic control, am I clear for take off?"

Our goal is to help people meet a ballance between fun and affordability. We know everyone wishes they had a little more oomph in the gas pedal. So we want to make it happen...cheap.

The miata is a daily driver. With the ability to put 350 HP to the wheels (with proper boost tunning), this car is still up for the trip to the movies or a weekend at the beach. The only thing different is you have to run 93 octane, and every so often you have to fill up a little jug, under the hood, with water (water injection system).

There are even 1050 HP kits for Toyota Supra's that do NOT require you to touch the bottom end at all!

Thanks again fellas, I think I've over posted! LOL

FYI...if you use mugen parts lemme know. I get all kinds of discounts on mugen and most other JDM things. I know people at wings west too, although i dont normally give em a call. If you need a price break on any import parts let me know, i can buy and U.P.S to you for far cheaper than what you would normally pay.

one ting that has helped us is being overly nice. sometimes you should knock off some of the price for od-ball reasons. one of the biggest problems we have is people that come in just looking. Eventhough i know they arent going to buy i still take the time to give them prices because they may come back someday or tell their friends good things.

You are right, I sometimes go and look to gather info on a idea that I have, or kill time and look for a item that someone other than myself has asked about. Word of mouth is a very effective tool in auto repair/restore work and the bad words spread faster than the good ones do.

I live near Charlotte myself, I have a few pals that have shops in Charlotte. I have a site running and want to open a shop in the near future myself. check out . We dont have all our parts on there but we can get most anything you need. I am a good pal of the Racing hart distributor for the south east. If you dont know him already (If you do I dont need to say his name) I will be happy to set you up with him for a meeting. Let me know more about your shop I will be there.:D

We also have started a forum for car people that centers mostly around the import market.

Until you "rice" you cant laugh at it. I had a bronco just like yours how many miles you have on it?

KA9MOT
11-28-2003, 03:13 PM
Well lets see, I have 2. A 84 with 95,000 miles and a 87 with at least 170,000 miles on it but the previous owner said it was more like 270,000. Back in my young and dumb days I owned a few Toyotas (2 trucks and a Celica) and 7 Civics. There was a 60 something Datsun in 74 (I actually liked that car), more recently I bought a 93 Civic to fix up and sell (what a piece of junk that thing was). I had a Mazda pick-up once but that doesn't count because it was a Ford.

Had you taken the time to think about what I said it would have occurred to you that my statement was a compliment to Mr. Shaggy's taste. I dislike imports but I have nothing against a well built and thought out car regardless of manufacturer. The majority of modified imports are gaudy, unsafe piles of junk.

Now, if you want to get all defensive and mouthy save it until I say "Rice is Junk"

As to your owning a Bronco II that you are insinuating was junk, I have no doubt that is was never maintained properly, probably driven hard and put up wet. You can not base an opinion on 1 vehicle.

What reply did you read? All i asked was how many miles it had.
As for the rice statement I dont like rice myself, but, Its all in what you like.
I have had a few cars in my life too. Im not some kid on here defending my car. Im just making a statement. Just like you did.

OK then, I misunderstood you. LOL :D I got a little defensive on the Bronco thing myself. I have people stop me all the time to tell me "I used to have one of them and the axle broke" or "I used to have one of them and couldn't keep hubs on it". I actually tried all summer to brake the thing so that I could find and upgrade any weak parts. I can't break it. It is getting disapointing.

So, lets clear the air and start over.

BTW, welcome to the forums.

keep her stock beefy. You modify ONE thing and you will find weak links till everything has been replaced. Its a viscious cycle.

Ummm......Headers and 3+ size tires aren't stock. But mostly stock. And it has a GM alternator but I don't think that adds to anything. LOL :D

GM alt? Why? Them things cook themselves! I noticed the new Delhpi ones have lines to run coolant throught them, they must get pretty dam hot.

Thats kool beefy, Mine was totaled by a guy running a stop sign. I actually totaled two cars at the same intersection. Both by people running a stop sign.

Why? That is an easy question to answer.

Ford Alternators in the 90 Amp range for my Bronco II are expensive.
Externally regulated Alternators (The whole or part of the system) are prone to failure. IMO.
I have never liked Ford's Setup.
For $43 I found a 90 Amp Cadillac Alternator (si13?).
It fit perfectly.
The pulley size was an exact match.
This swap allowed me to eliminate the external regulator.
I was able to use the stock harness with minimal cutting.
The only addition is a light bulb.
It affords me 90 Amps instead of the factory 60 Amps and I saved a buck or two.

BTW, I used to do this to all my vehicles that were equipped with Generators. It is a very easy upgrade and it is an upgrade.

Heck yeah, I moved. I actually flew 10 feet in the air in a 1987 CRX and landed on the passenger side facing the opposite direction.

dont you have a pretty nice stereo in that? Is that the reason for wanting 90 amps? Its funny when kids at school talk about their 3 and 4K watt stereos and they still have the stock 50 amp honda alt LOL.

KA9MOT
11-29-2003, 03:13 PM
Actually, I do have a decent stereo but I took my sub and Amp out because my neighbor offered me too much money for it. Hey everything is for sale. I originally replaced it because the stock one crapped out on me and I have been using the GM alternators since the 70's on my Fords and on the vehicles that I have owned that had Generators. SO, it is perfectly natural for me to bolt it in snip out the stock regulator and do some soldering. Someday when I am rich and famous I'll get some quality off road lights and the extra amperage will really be a big help then.

I know what you mean about the kids with the stock ALT. They bump around here with the headlights flashing. LOL :D

Hey beefy, my buddy just got some lights from 4 wheel parts. The pro comp lights. THere were somthing like $45 each from the christmas sale thats goin on. Im used to the hellas that I usually use and I figured this pro comp crap (most of their stuff is junk IMO) would be weak, its not, im very impressed with their lighting products. Too bad his stock toyota 65 amp alt cant handle it. At idle it drops 300 rpm to run the lights.
