I'm not a proffesional driver or anything like that but I would like to know, which is the perfect or better RPM for changing gears in a manual transmission?, I know the question is stupid, but I would like to know if there is any RPM in particular that's consider the best method.

There is no absolute correct answer. If you are looking for fuel economy, then the best rpm for shifting is when the next, higher gear, will not lug the engine. If you are looking for absolute performance, then you are looking at somewhere near peak horsepower before the torque curve drops off. This is usually somewhere around redline, but not always.

I usually shift the car at 3,500 Rpms, here and there I go higher, but I do it just for the sound of the exhaust,,lol,,,,I asked that just to know if there is a Rpm number wich is said to be the correct one for shifting.

Do you have a repair manual for it? It should tell you the peak horse power rpm and the peak torque rpm, try shifting around those numbers for the use you are after. My Blazer is low rpm for torque and I shift accordingly in mud or trails if needed.

Thanks s10, I'll check that to see if I can find it.

It is odd, but you can find the figures in oil filter catalogs. I looked forever once for info on a gm engine and it was right in the book at auto zone.

In wich section should I look in the repair manual?

I found mine in the engine specs section. It will tell you how much H/Power @ such & such RPM.

my daily driver 2.4 4cyl. I normally shift at 3500 for normal driving. If im feeling a lil speedy Ill push it to redline. Its your choise, but keeping the rpm's low will conserve on the gas.

I would be scared to death to go to red line with my old blazer, I had it to 100 mph the other night down hill of course and it was extremme enough for me. lol I am a chicken I guess.

I'm like you s10, I think the highest I have go to is at about 5000 Rpms, I don't know maybe i'm scared of something happening to the engine, I just usually don't go too high, that's rare for me. And actually going that high it may be just for show. lol

I need to stick my car on the dyno. I'd like to see where I need to shift. I usually shift a bit before red line if I'm hitting it hard. Otherwise I am around 3.5-4k... We are getting a new dyno for season 2 so maybe I can play around while we are training on it...

I hear that, I had started worrying about the tires and they are new, the brakes and steering, all in about 20 seconds. Like I said, I was going down hill and I thought, just this once. I dont think I will see that speed again.
