Most "stock" 305 engines come factory with hydraulic lifters. Most people run hydraulic lifters with a manual transmission and solid lifters with an automatic just opinions do vary. Hydraulic lifters are quieter than solid lifters and in my opinion easier to get adjusted. Dont buy a large cam with a 305. Jegs had new Crane Cam and lifter sets for 70 dollars. Its the new energizer series.

I have a 83 Z28 that I upgraded the cam on. I have a LG4 305 with only 150HP. I bought a CRANE CAM Energizer cam at Jegs that was for 2k - 5k RPM range. It was also the biggest before you would have to upgrade you torque converter. I ran a 1/4 E.T
at 15.26 at 88.9MPH. I have A CHEVY HIGHPERFORMANCE Mag. that has my car with the same engine with a little smaller cam and it ran a 15.82 E.T. at 74MPH. I have nice pickup in speed
but my trany holds me back when I go into 4th gear. It's best to match your cam with what your trany can do.I hope this helps as for this has been my experience with my new cam.

I would nuts on a cam unless your doing heads, intake, headers, and the gear suited for that cam. If you're going to stay fairly stock get a cam for a 1967 327 350HP. Otherwise you'll have what we always called a "loping piece of @hit"
