I am swaping out a 2.8 from my 82 s-10 and replacing it with the engine and tranny from an 87 caprice police car. Do I need any special gauges? Are there any special parts that I need other than headers and mounts? Any suggestions you could offer would be greatly appreciated.

I have a 1989 chevy S-10 that had a 2.8 engine....i am currently swapping it out for a 350 engine out of a 79 chevy caprice....like the above reply says...get the S-10 V8 conversion book...that book tells you everything....i think the Hardest part of swaping it out would be the firewall modifications ( which i am going to start as soon as the weather gets better) ......

Good Luck....!!!!!!!!!!!!

yeah, the best bet would b 2 get the book.
ive done a few. the only firewall mods needed are to the airconditioning box. otherwise just making sure you have all the parts ready helps. the 2wd ones using a 700r4 tranny are the easiest to do. no new crossmember or driveshaft. just need the frame brackets, radiator off a mid 80s vette, any possibly an electric fan. otherwise you can use the complete engine and accessories with the v8. exh manifolds, alt, ps, hei. might have to raise the ps pump mount to clear the gearbox, and trim the ears off the tranny bellhousing to make room for the exhaust. the 4wd conversion isnt bad, but does entail a bit more. fun fast ride after ya get it completed tho!
