So Im in the market for a tool chest. Ive got a whole big snap on rolling chest but I leave that at the shop. Ive been starting my home set of tools and decided on craftsman. Who makes a good rolling storage chest? Im looking for somthing 3' wide, 4' high, 1.5' deep, or somthing in that area. Ive seen a few craftsman chests that I like that are in my budget ($200) but I saw one in the back that was broken and I saw that the drawers are held together by adhesive, not even tack welds. Is the craftsman still a good storage unit to look at or should I look elsewhere?

I bought a new box for the house a few months ago. I would have liked to have gotten a snap-on but they cost so much. I ended up getting a Craftsman Pro. Series box. The top and bottom box together is just about 6' tall and it is deep and wide. I got it on sale for about $1,600.00 on the ez payment plan, with no interest for a year. I'll pay it off before the interest kicks in. Like I said, I would have liked to bought a snap-on but for a snap-on box that size, it would have cost somewhere around $6,000.00. I know you get what you pay for, but dern, thats a lot of bucks for a tool box without any tools in it. Plus if you want to stay in the $200.00 price range, it's not gonna be a lot to choose from.
Have you ever heard of the Craftsman Club? It's free to join. I don't have the phone number with me now but if you need it, I can get it for yall. It don't take too long for them to send you a card. Then every so often they have Craftsman Club Days, when you can buy Craftsman tools and get 10% off on almost everything Craftsman. Not bad, 10% off for something you was gonna buy it anyway.

My suggestion is to go to local auctions that have tools. You may find exactly what you are looking for and pay alot less. Also the older Craftsman boxes are well built. They are heavier gauge metal and no plastic. Good luck.

I'm with 89s10. My Grandfather had craftsman tools, my Dad had craftsman tools, and I've had craftsman tools since I was 12. A tool box is just a place to store tools in, nothing more. I personally have a craftsman box, not because I have their tools, but because I liked the box. I like the idea of when a tool breaks, you just go to Sears and replace it. Very cool.

I am with the Craftsman guys on this one. I think many of us would like to own the Mac or Snap-On but the Craftsman box is quality and you'll spend allot less. I have had my new Craftsman box for a year and I have not scratched the paint on it yet. My last 3 boxes got stolen (by different means) and I bought a Stack-On from Lowe's. It didn't last a year. I still have it but now it is sun faded and broken.

For the "shade tree" type of guy who is the weekend mechanic, Craftman's the way to go.
However, for the everyday, commercial / industrial heavy duty use, Snap-On can't be beat....

thanks guys, looks like im headin down to sears again. It is too bad I dont have the cash for another snap on roller. To be honest I dont think I would have bought all the snap on and Mac stuff If I didnt get the shop. The only reason I did was because I could write them off as a business expense. And the warrenty that craftsman has is great. Im suprised how many snap on and mac tools I have broke (drivers off of breaker bars, drivers off air ratchets, and all snap on air tools are junk) and then your out the tool, at least with sears you can get a new one. But some of it comes with using them improporly (why go back to the tool box to get the hammer when you have a prefectly good 1/2" ratchet next to you?).
Sears is great with that kind of stuff. My grandfather bout a new rottertiller from them when they sold brings and straton stuff. He bought it new in 45. My father can send it back into them if anything happens to it and the will either rebuild the whole thing for him and ship him a new on all at half the normal cost. They have always been the ones to stand bebind there products

for the home go with craftsman unless you have a good rep. you might be able to get a used snap on or mac box for a song thats how I got mine it's 6 ft. tall and I still don't have enough room for all my tools. (the one who dies with the most tool's wins) lol

We have had several craftsman on our set. The ones in the background are top notch. Very sturdy and just an all around great chest. We have one that is a much much cheaper version as well though and you can certainly tell.

Yep, got my Craftsman box for Christmas last year. I think they caught it on sale and got the middle section free when you bought the top and bottom pieces. Good box. No complaints.
Now I just need more tools. Always need more tools.....

I got my boxes for Christmas too. Three Craftsman boxes that stand taller than I do. Plenty of room. Now I just need to move all my tools from the workbench into the toolbox.

I got the info on the craftsman club. You sign up by phone. Just give them your info and they will mail you the card and all the information regarding the sale days. 1-800-682-8691 is the number. You get 10% on your first purchase and then there is one week a month that you get an additional 10% on anything in the store. It also has a news letter that tells you which items will be on sale each month, its a great heads up.

Put my vote in and just read every post. I like this one because it sounds like a dream, tool boxes taller than me, and you just got to like that screen name too...LOL

The craftsman club is great. My son and I have been members for a few years now. You can save few bucks and it's always great getting the sale flyer in the mail.

Craftsman Pro cart and chest combo is manufactured by Waterloo Industries. Waterloo calls it Magnum. I have issues with the drawers rolling back to one side when fully opened. They appear to be out of square or slides are uneven. Engineers are working problem. Am I the lonesome identifier of this issue? If someone has a resolution, please info me. Thanks...
