I have a 1980 Z-28 and my tachometer when out. I want to keep the factory look but I have not been able to find a replacement at local j-yards or anywhere on the net. I thought about replacing the guts and retaining the faceplate. How feasible is this?

Hey Ralph, thought I would reply since nobody else did. From what I've seen on all other cars, you should be able to replace the guts and retain the face plate with no problem. All they are is usually 3 nuts holding it on to the face plate and they come right off. Then disconnect the wires and whalah. The new tach's come with new wires that are about 7 inches long so you can just crimp them. I'll look today for a replaceable tach. By the way, keep in mind that it is a Chevy. So finding parts at a j-yard will probably be hard to find because most Chevy's won't make it there. Check on the side of the road on the way to the j-yard. They should be all over the place (broke-down) HA HA HA
