And Dodge and Mercedes. It is all Mercedes now. I had one of those weak suck Dodge/Mitsu trannies in my Stratus. 60,000 miles and it was toast. Come to think on it, that sucky engine was Mitsu too!

I did! LOL :D

GM is the only one who makes a good transaxle. All of the rest are weak.

You betcha!

People have a right to like and drive what they want to. However, I have seen countless of these trans-axles fail and in fact, this gentleman's Mitsu is having transmission troubles as well.

Well it sent me on a tirade and I fear I have behaved badly.

Still I am correct and worse yet, I know I am correct.

Some guys that drive a merc and decide to get a truck automatically go for the F150. I'm glad to see you took a step forward instead of backward. ;)

I have actually been trying to stay out of this Ford vs Chebby thing lately because it is becoming too serious of a matter here, but the above statement is ridiculous.

The only rear drive GM that you can buy is a truck, van or Corvette. If you want a true performance GM.........Uh whoops........they only have the Corvette. They took legendary names like Nova, Impala, Malibu, Monte Carlo, Gran Prix and GTO and put them on (ship high in transit) boxes. They cancelled names like Cutless, Firebird and Camaro.

How can that possibly be a good thing?

Face it guys, If you want a new affordable performance car your choices are Ford, Holden and Dodge. If you want it to be built by an American owned car company.................Ford only.

Edit: Come to think of it.........I havent seen the name Nova since they put it on a Toyota Corolla.

GM could care less about you.............Why be so loyal to them?

Ok beefy, simmer down. We're all just having a little fun here. But, since you brought it up........

What true rear wheel drive affordable performance car does does Ford build? The Mustang. And please, don't compare the Mustang to the Corvette. And take trucks out of the mix since you stated GM makes trucks (duh). And don't bring up the Marauder or GT because you did say affordable. And American owned, last time I looked, GM was an American owned company too. Have they made mistakes, absolutely! But so has Ford. And you said GM could care less about you, what makes you think Ford is no different? Both companies are in the same boat on customer service and giving the public what they want as far as I'm concerned.

Woooo Hooooo...... Let's get ready to rruuuummmbbbllllle..

OH, Yeah.... Well, here's MY .02.....

Caddy, XLR Super quick !!!

Buick Regal GS (V-6) (from the factory supercharged) eats stock 5.0 (or 4.6) Stangs for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.... still gets near 30 mpg "on the road"

New Impala SS (V-6) (re-read Buick Regal GS)

Pontiac Bonny (V-6) (re-read Buick Regal GS)

There are a lot of MushBash owners out there that wishes he didn't pull up the the traffic light, and revvv his engine while lookin' over at G'pa in his "4 door granny grocery getter"

Frankly, I not allied with any manufacturer, I just happen to like GM stuff, and I especially enjoy the GM vs Blue Oval commotion that goes on here?????

:D :D :D :)

Caddy XLR = Funny looking Corvette and costs more.

All others mentioned, Front Wheel Drive and not worth mentioning.

Now you go ahead and spend "The Big Bucks" for those fast FWDers. I'd spend the same money (or less) for a Cobra, Lighting or HD F150 OR spend allot less money for that foreign car (You know the Dodge Magnum) with the Hemi and eat Grandpa for lunch AND do smoky donuts afterward.

Truth be told, I like my slow, comfortable Bronco II.

My point was GM turned it's collective nose up at the performance market. Real performance cars have rear wheel drive.
I'm not knocking your Buick either. I have always like Buicks.

My Buick is NOT supercharged, so therefore it is kind of a slug off the line. And it is a true Grandpa car..... well, I suppose that's because I am also a true Grandpa (twice)... How can I feel SOOO young, and BE so darn old.... maybe it's the medication???? I still don't know why youth is wasted on the young?!?!?! Just wait..... you too may need to take Celebrex just so you can roll out of bed, and maintain your balance to make it to the bathroom without hurting yourself... :D what's that old saying... "one foot in the grave, and one on a banana peel" alright, that's it... I feel young again, I'm tradin' my fifty-something wife for (2) twenty-five's ;) ;)

Danny, the Regal is really a great tire-smokin' "sleeper"... kind of like a wolf in sheep's clothing.

Oh, the XLR is "only" $76,000. an acquaintence has one (she's a waitress in a small diner) she inherited a few bucks recently, and got rid of her '02 MUSTANG convertible (had it for 2 1/2 years, and never put the top down!!)... at 76K, I thought she would at least put the top down on the Caddy (she hasn't yet)...

Trouble is, they're always about 5 years behind the trends that folks want. That gap is closing, but sometimes I think they're still clueless. Ford vs Chevy, Good vs Evil, Democrat vs Republican, Ying vs Yang, Boxers vs Briefs, the debates can go on and on. Drive what you like, but most of all, like what you drive!

vEttOr......... No wonder they're 5 years behind the times, 4 years ago, I was workin' on the Ford truck frames that are just now in production (the independent rear suspension for the Expedition, etc). Just wait till they get the inboard disk brakes added to the production line... ah, yes, another rumor. While there, the, I also saw planning for development for a complete chassis for the Corvette.. 100% aluminum, and aluminum honeycomb... wow, gimme an aluminum Vette, can you imagine, same HP (or more) plus a significant weight loss..

By the way, I like my Riviera.. I like my (daughter's) Jeep.. I like the Squaw's [ahemm] Ford.. I like my other daughter's Regal.. I don't know if like the third daughter's Eagle Talon, cause I can't really get into it and be comfortable.:D :D :D [asks self]..Jon, why don't you lose a little weight????

Front wheel drive was the right car for the right reasons beginning in the early to mid 70's. Instant 10% gas mileage improvement over rear drive, due to weight reduction and less revolving mass, i.e. no rear differential. This was during the first gas shortages. In snow and rain, better traction than rear wheel drive.
Now as far as pure driving experience, I do concede that rear drive has the edge, and if driving for sporty enjoyment, make mind rear drive as well. All four wheels work together as opposed to the front wheel doing 80% of the work for FWD. Two other advantages of RWD include greater towing capacity and minimal to no torque steer while accelerating.
You've got to remember that Detroit (meaning the auto industry in general) has to provide millions of dependable (relatively speaking) automobiles to the masses so it can be in a financially favorable position to promote their performance vehicles, because not enough people will spend the money for the hotrods, even though the hotrods bring the people into the showroom (in many cases) in the first place. And one final thought, with the lag time from conception to production, they have to think where they need to be about three years before they get there. On a whole, I'm not disappointed in their performance.
