I got my thunderbird about a month ago and replaced the fuel pump and tank because I had about an inch of rust in it. The car ran fine until I was driving it and the transmission started to slip. There was no loud mechanical noise or somke that would indicate the the trany had went out. I stopped the car and found that I was leeking fluid out the bottom extremely. I took it to a friend of a friend and he said that it was the front seal had broke and for it to break the there would have to be something wrong with the whole thing. He said it was building to much pressure. He wants to service the trany and I would like to believe him but I don't. The car had been sitting for about 4-6 years and don't know if that would have a factor in this or maybe if its the fact that the car is 20 years old. If you guys might have any info please let me know or anything else I might have to look for with this car. Thanks for your time.

He may be correct but that is unlikely. I'd say that the seal dried out while sitting and no longer seals good. Pull the tranny and replace the seal. A few bucks and allot of labor and you should be good to go.
For maintenance sake, pull the pan and change the gasket and filter while your there. Cheap insurance and check the pan for metal. Tiny flakes are normal but if you see anything larger plan on some major repairs.

there's a product called trans-x, no i don't work for them, it may help until you can afford to take on the task of removing the trans and putting in a new seal. remember this is only temporary and not a permanent repair.
