I have a 1984 Crown Vic LTD. When I took it apart to rebuild the engine it ran, rough, but still.. Since putting it back I try to turn the key over and when I do that everything clicks off, cab lights, head lights, when I turn it off of start the lights all come back on. Battery is brand new and been tested, starter was tested and passed twice.

When I hook my pliers to the side of the solenoid going to the batter to the wire going to the starter it tries to turn over. Does that mean the solenoid is good or bad since i had to bypass it? If that means its good do i need to trace the wires back to the steering column and if so how do i determine which one is for the ignition?

How do I test an ignition switch, how do I find and test a neutral safety switch, and how do i test the ignition coil? Basically how do I perform the process of elimination for these 4 or 5 issues to get this thing running?

I shut the car off and within 60 sec the temp dropped to half (90). Upon restart about 2 mins later the temp jumped right back up to too hot. The extreme fluctuation of temp makes me think that i have a stuck thermostat somewhere. any thoughts?

Not too familiar with distributors or carburetors. after driving when i come to a stop it dies. just recently i was checking it out and i timed how long it would stay running. 2 minutes. dead on the money. i'm lost and i'd really like to have this thing up and running, any help would be greatly appreciated

Engine cold, engine hot, at idle, at 5000 rpm, it is always at the exact same spot. It never varies. It is at zero until you start it, and then it jumps to that spot.

I am suspecting the sending unit is a switch, like used for an idiot light.

Can anyone confirm or deny this?

This is more for sharing new found information.

On my 2003 Explorer I found that my courtousy lights kind of acted up about 2 years ago. It affected how my dash lights and mirror delay lights acted. After a while I managed to create a system where I had things working in a certain sequence. I promised myself that I would fix them soon. Well, soon never really happened and 2 years went by.

A few weeks ago my power widows stopped working. That's enough I had to have working windows.

Not much was online with regards to repairs aside from the obvious 2 fuses, 1 circuit breaker 1 accessory delay relay and the master control switch. All of those proved to be ok. So, deeper I dug.

I found that the harness or loom that leaves the driver's door and enters the inner door jam leading to one of the fuse panels had a break.

That boot that goes from the door to the door jam needs to be pulled back and inspect the wires.

Mine happened to be two black wires, not one but two. Maybe I can fix two problems here.

I stripped back the wires, soldered and heat shrunk. Put everything back together and now everything runs like new.

I did hear reports that a pink wire tends to break.
Truth is any wire can break due to freezing cold temps and constant opening and closing. It's all fatigue

So, if you have a problem chances are, that's where you'll find it.

The actual door panel pops off in 2 minutes. If you want further instructions please ask and I'll be happy to post it.
