This was a terrible accident. You can bet your boots that they'll really crack down on hole shots and the like at cruise events.

man I watched the video and there wasn't much of a barrier there to protect people from a car. That event should have been put together better. The money they were raising for kids will need to go to families now, those who probably will sue.

They do that in Europe all of the time. Spectators are responsible for their own safety.
Many times you will see 20-30 people get wiped out by an out-of-control rally car...

True, it's a tragic event, but somebody should have installed some form of barrier. At sanctioned racing events they have very good crowd control.

I have attended similar type events. I always make sure there is something real big between me and the cars. When I attend, I accept most of the responsability for my safety. I have seen crowds, at super modified tractor/truck pulls, want to stand at the end, where a truck would fly into, if anything were to go wrong. They try and try to keep people out, but they just keep coming back. I'm not saying that this happened at this particular event.

However I heard the news talking about charging the driver. Man slaughter? Vehicular homiside? (excuse spelling). Well if he did do something very stupid and far exceeded the rules that were set by the organizers, maybe he does deserve to be charged. But what about the organizers, the politicians, and the police that were ever so happy to do this to raise money for a good cause. I do not see why the driver should be single out alone. If it was a malfunction of equipment, or he was operating within the rules of the organizers, he is the least culpable in my opinion.

I just get annoyed when people play the blame game, when not one person there is completely blameless.

So they stick this guy in prison for 5 yrs. What good would it do?
