460 into a Ranger?

Okay I have a lincoln 460 with a C6 and I was wanting to know if there was a Feasable way of getting that into a 88 Ranger Ext cab shourt box 2x4? I have been told no way but If I can get it into a 83 mustang why wont if fit in a Ranger?

This would be an awsome Swap I think.

where would I get information on this swap and is there a Kit?

probly because the ranger is set up for a v6, you should be able to get a small block v8 in it. but u can put the 460 in, you just have to do some do some mods to the engine compartment

Jeorge,

I really don't know too much on this type of swap but I do remember some of the general dimentions of both of the major components you are wanting to use.......

From changing the motor on my son's Ranger and remembering the general size of the engine bay for the 2.9 and knowing how big the 460 big block is.....your shock/spring towers are going to have to GO completely. Meaning you have a major chassis redo in the front to get an area for the 460 just to sit.

Good luck finding a kit......not saying it can't be done.....I just think you may want to ponder on this one for awhile.

it would be easier to put a 302 and you would have plenty of power.

302 I have some, But its been done.

but I wanted to know about the 460, what if I was to scrap the inner Fenders? and move to Electric push fans?

Im going to go home and Measure the wheel well clearance and see. because I think that would be Fun to play with. take it to the Drags and stuff. I would Probly switch to a Mustang Rack and pinion insted of the whole Gear box Ect. but I really think it could be done with custom motor mounts and a little welding of the hump in the floor for the C6

i was helping my friend work on his ranger today and i noticed that there aint much room in there. You might need to push back some parts of the firewall, toss the inner fenders you will definatly need electric fans, and i think you will still need more room. Ive seen some small block rangers and they sag major in the front so i'd put some heavy duty springs and spring buckets, and personally i would beef up the i beam brakets. A friend of mine put a 302 in a 94 ranger and he had already put a lift on it that was a prerunner. It had a 4" rear lift and a 5.5" front lift and after the engine change the truck sat level.

I talked to a guy at a car show years ago who did this type of thing. He had put some sort of big block into his Ranger, but I don't remember the engine size. He had to cut out the inner fenders, cut up the firewall and fabricate a "doghouse" inside the cab, under the dash. He removed the front radiator support, and fabricated an new one, so that the radiator and electric fans were even with the original location of the front bumper. He had to fabricate a new front bumper to stick out further than the radiator. He had to relocate the steering box, and fabricate a new linkage. The master cylinder had to be relocated. Headers had to be fabricated to fit around the front shocks, which had to be oversized to handle the weight. He had to fabricate a shifter linkage to the automatic trans. Driveshaft was custom cut(really short). These were the biggies I can recall, and I do recall he said it drove like crap.He did it just to see if it could be done, and only takes it to car shows-on a trailer.

Well I did it now.

I have now Scraped the Ranger Idea after selling it for $500 I have now Bought a 1950 Ford Sedan for $50 and now am working on getting a Kit or supplies to do a Frame off Restoration Modification.

Im in the Process of looking for a FI conversion Kit for the 460
and a OD unit for the C6, I am also looking for two Used T4 Turbos. You see where this is going dont you.

anyways I want to French it Shave it and put Suiside Rear Doors on this car.

I have the time and the place to do this now Im just looking for inexpencive parts for this conversion.

Im going to Trade my N case 9" with 2.50 for a N case 9" with 3.27 & Disc brakes.
Im going to put a Mustang Front suspenstion on it. with upgraded Shocks and Springs.

the body on the car apears to be Solid but we'll see when I go and Pull it off the Frame.

Wish me luck and if anyone has a few sites or Ideas let me know.

Thanks for all the information on the Ranger conversion

but I wanted a 50 Merc but $50 for a 50 Ford I can Live with.
