Cork or Rubber gasket
I am going to be doing the orings on my 1974 Chevy C-10 Pick-up. It has a 350 small block. No A/C has heater. I need to know if I should use use cork gasket or rubber?

Use either. A cork will seal better, a rubber is re-useable and will probably last longer.
But this all depends. I've used rubber gaskets that stretched. And have been able to get cork to re-seal after I removed the valve covers. I've heard pros & cons about both over the years. If you plan on taking the covers off a few times then I'd probably pick the rubbers over the cork. |

I like to use cork, just a personal preference. And if you plan on taking the valve covers off several times, I would replace the gaskets anyway. JMO

I would use rubber gaskets if availible for my engine. Also make sure the valve cover holes are not bent down from over tighting. I guess it is one of those preferance things, I got my war paint on!

I use the stuff in a can like the factory does now. Seals the best. I don't see many leaky valve cover gaskets these days. I've tried cork, rubber, rubber w/ steel and the stuff in a can works the best. Takes a little longer to put on the valve cover (you need to wait till the material sets up) but seals fantastic.

I'll look later. It's a rubberized gasket material in a pressurized can. Got it @ NAPA but I'm sure you can get it most anywhere. Most of the domestic car manufaturers use this kind of stuff anymore I think.

They should know what you're talking about if you contact them. Never tried it myself.
