2000 Cheve 4x4 trying to lock up Need advice ASP!
We have a 4x4 Cheve 2000 Z71 LS with 5.3 engine. Problem: When you back up or even sometimes when you go forward something is trying to lock up. It does not do this all the time. We were thinking either in the 4 wheel drive system or mabe in the transfer case .Mabe some sencers somewhere on the transfer case ot sencers on the rearend. We have ruled out the rear end trying to lock up already checked that out. Also transmission seems to be working just fine. Is there a sensor on that transfer case that runs that 4 wheeel drive? You just push a button for the 4 wheel drive to lock in ,could it be in that? We are lost at what it may be . Does any one out there have any suggestions as to what it may be and how to fix it. Would really appreicate anyones help. We do not know what to do or whether to drive the truck or not. Thank you Sandy

Not often there's a front wheel drive transfer case problem on fullsize Chevy's. But some fullsize Chevy's do have a problem with front brakes locking up. It's a abs problem, It occurs on models 1999 through 2003. If left alone, the problem can get worse where, you leave from a stop and the front tires will slide, and the rear tires will spin , squealing the rear tires. So try to determine what it is.
If you have auto 4x4 feature turn it off. It's better to manually shift then it is to use auto-4x4. Theres several pickups I replaced the transfer case because someone had their truck in auto-4x4 and took off from a stop and back tires spun and auto-4x4 grabs and tears the transfer case out. We always tell people when they buy a new Chevy, too try and not use auto-4x4. If your truck is stuck in 4x4 you should get a 4x4 hop when you turn.

Lock up as in the vehicle won't move, or you can hear something binding, or does it only when turning, or? Maybe a bit better description of the problem would help.
