points ignition

i have a 1988 Yugo GVX with a 1.3L engine i have shaved the head and rebuilt the whole engine i have the compression up to 10.5:1 and just rebuilt the carb. It has an old stock Bosh points ignition and i was lookin to upgrade to something better. I do not know much about the ignition systems and was wondering what would be the most efective and best way to improve the cars ignition. I need alot of spark cause i think the main problem now is that the spark is weak and its a real pain when its wet out... i have a brand new stock set up so i know its not the components that are the problem i just need something high end. thank you in advance

That's a tough one, lets see. Bosch makes the distributor and A1 Cardone makes re-manufactured distributors. I don't know of any company that makes a pointless distributor for this car or not. You maybe, can get a aftermarket setup from accel or MSD or something else. I guess the only way is to call and ask if it has points or not. A new bosch is 320.79 and A1 Cardone is 124.99. If you want a better spark don't blame it on the points. Blame it on the coil. What you need is a better, hotter, higher voltage coil. You can buy a coil like AC Delco or even one from MSD or accel. But if you do go with a hotter coil, try to get a set of platinum spark plugs, they have a higher melting point then copper spark plugs. Also if you really want a different distributor call a few auto parts store and ask if a pointless distributor is made for this car.

OMG. Is there an extra 0 in there? Was it local to NH, any rust??? I'll ask a friend how many of these he has crushed. If he runs across one, will let you know. Doubt it though, you never see them around here any more.

I say with a smile, I owned two of these. what a gas to drive. any car you can put your hands out both windows at the same time. it was like driveing a go-cart. and the gas mileage was not to shabby. my friends thought I was nuts but I always wanted to make a stretch limo out of some of them. boy what a ride that would of been.

OK, the Yugo is actually a license built Fiat 124. So, almost anything for a Fiat will work....
I have a suggestion, though. Go to the "Pertronics" web page, and see if they have an ignition module to fit the appropriate Fiat. I figure if they make an ignition module to convert a Ford flathead to electronic ignition, they should have one for a Yugo.

Or..... you could trade it for a Citroen Deuchevaux.... They already have electronic ignition.
