Just bought a 57 Bel Air and have some ?'s

The Bel Air has been sitting in my neighbor's backyard, but I never had the guts to ask about it because I figured it was useless...but I finally did and it was for sale!!!

Itís ALL ORIGINAL with only 71k miles!!! It had been in her family for years and she had finally decided to sell it. She gave me a GREAT deal on it....so great I can hardly believe it.

The body has no digs or dents, but has very few minor rust spots. I want to keep the car as original as possible, but I still want it to look good. What could I use to remove the rust? What type of compound should I use to bring the paint back to life? Finally, what type of polish should I use to brighten up all of the chrome?

Thanks for any help,

what type of trim, the best crome cleaner is mothers. I am not sure if it is for stainless, but it works wonders for mags and alumnuim. There is a rust remover called Navel Jelly, it is easy to clean off and it is easy on the crome as well. I used it on bicycle wheels and spokes, and on true spoke wheels, and the paint I will leave that to someone more qualified than I, I have used Rain Dance for years, but so many other newer products are out there now. I have wondered about the clay bar treatment, although I have never used it. Congratulations to you for your find.

Thanx for the tips. When I had my '00 Z28 and my '96 Impala SS I used the Zaino system on the paint. It is the most amazing stuff I have ever seen. It gave both cars a mirror finish and made them unbelievably easy to wash when the time came. I would love to use this system on the Be Air, but I wasn't sure if there was a specific type of waxing system to use on cars with no clear coat.

Is there a polish for stainless steel, without causing it to lose the shine?

It's a couple of mazdas, I bought a Rx-7 a few days ago, that I'm going to start to work on, and my normal, everyday car it's a Mx-3, that's the one I was working with the upgrades, but I don't know what else to do with it.

I think that stainless needs no polishing or wax, it merley needs cleaning to be shinny. I use Bon Ami on my kitchen sink and when I am done you can see everywhere I missed a spot. The sink is stainless. There probally is a car product that claims to do all the work, but I think you can get buy with a good cleanser. cost .49 cents
