Radiator Flush - 94 Cavalier 3.1
Anyone know how to do this being I have no cap on the radiator but rather a overflow bottle. I 'think' I located the radiator drain, on the side of the radiator on the passenger side of the car.
Would I need to remove the thermostat if I were to use a back flush kit so the water would have a straight through shot? I'm a little unsure of how to accomplish this being it has the bottle. Thanks, guys! |

Well kenny I'll tell you what I do. I take the thermostat out for flushing. My drain plug on the malibu is on the driver's side near the bottom. Once I have drained the radiator I flush it out with some cleaner and leave the engine run a bit. Once I get that done. I drain the radiator again. Then I install my thermostat and new gasket. And fill the radiator using the big upper hose. Once I got everything back together. I fill the reservoir. And run it a while to get the air out of the system. I sometimes squeeze the big hose to help get the water flowing a bit. Add more antifreeze until it's at the proper reservoir tank line level.
Some people will just fill the reservoir and wait for the radiator to fill. I don't like to do that and let the water pump run dry.
