Rear End Question

If i want to change my rear gearing, do i just buy i new ring and pinion set that matches the diff and bolt it on? is it that simple? and what ratio would my 76 granada have on it now? people have been saying i should take it down to 3.5 for better acceleration.

it's not a matter of just changing the ring and pinion, the gears have to mesh correctly and that takes a little more time than putting the assembly together. you should have the gears set by an experienced mechanic so they won't wear out quickly or worse yet disintegrate under acceleration

whoops!

Are you sure they didn't say 3.55:1? Both it and 3.73:1 are good solid streetable gears, with a ton of torque for acceleration.

Also, DON'T TRY to install it at home.... buy it where you want to, but PLEASE take it to a VERY experienced mechanic to install.... when you buy a ring and pinion gear set, you also need to buy an installation kit.... it will have shims, etc... in it.

Is there a bid difference between 3.55 : 1 and 3.50 : 1, becasue i found a set of 3.50 that says it will work on my car

and this valve job? is it mor complicated than using the thing that looks like an eggbeater, a valve grinder i belive?

see your other post

3.50:1 and 3.55:1 are fairly close.... could split a hair with the e.t. in the 1/8 mile.

The valve job question I answered in your other post.
