Hissing noise still there

I had the power booster in my 92 Grand AM (quad 4) replaces.

I am still hearing some of the hissing noise, but it seems like it is only happening when the A/C is on. I hear it when I hit the brakes, but I am not hearing it as much, and again, it is only happening when the A/C is on.

Could it be that some of the hissing noise I am hearing is coming from the A/C system? If so, why would it most only happen when I am hitting the brakes?

Thanks for any help.

The vacuum system is used in many A/C systems for solenoid activation. This would probably be under the dash. Also there are some vacuum resevoirs throughout many cars but usually when a vacuum line is off, something doesn't function correctly. Do you have cruise control; does it work? Is your A/C functioning correctly? The bottom line is to try to pin point where the hiss is coming from; but it does sound like a vacuum leak by your description.

exactly what i was going to say

Most likely all your problem is, is a vacume line with a hole in it or torn or off al together.

Everything is working fine. I thought for sure it was the booster for the brakes, and that is what the tech. told me too. I called the tech. and told him I am going to bring it back in Monday, but I already spent $500 bucks, so he is going to have to work with me.

I will find out Monday I suppose, but whatever it is, there is no way I can afford to get it fixed right now.

That's something that I thought about after it happened. I could have had someone else take a look at it to tell me if there was something wrong with it.

Chalk it up to experience. Midas has always been honest with me, so I am not going to push the point. They checked my car out for a good hour trying to find the hissing noise, and didn't charge me a dime. They have also done a few littles things and haven't charged me for it, so I feel they are honest.

booster

I had the same trouble with a Ford. after spending way too much time hunting for leaks and broken or split hoses i finally plugged off the new booster. the noise was gone. Turns out the new booster was bad. The parts store replaced it at no charge but I was still out a lot of wasted time. I suggest hooking up the vacume hose and fire up the motor before you completly install the booster to check it first to save some grief.

good point

this is a good point-just because a part is new does not mean it is not bad. i have on occasion bought new parts and discovered that they were bad, it's not supposed to happen but it does.

It only makes the noise when the vents are open. I don't think the noise is the booster. I've decided to just let it go. So long as the car is running well, it is not causing any problems. Eventually, something will break, and then they will be able to track it down and fix it.

My car only have 71,000 miles on it, and it's ten years old. I plan to keep it another ten years, because I like it so much.

Thanks for all the advice. I will let you know if I ever find out what the problem is.
