71 Chevy looking for more power

Hello everyone, I currently am restoring a 71 chevy Impala which I acquired about 5 months ago. It right now has everything basically stock as far as the engine goes. It has a chevy 350 with a 2bbl right now in it, and I am looking for a few suggestions on where to start with upgrading this engine.

I have an edelbrock performer rpm intake waiting for it as of right now, but I am looking for a 4bbl carb that will not be too thirsty for gasoline to fit it. I also have plans on upgrading the valvetrain and cam. Would 2 1/2" pipes be sufficient for the exhaust, I am not looking for an all out racer, but am hoping to reach my goal of around 350-380 horses. If anyone out there has any tips they would be greatly appreciated.

If you want a few more ponies from this engine and don't want to race it there are quite a few parts for you to choose from. The power is developed mostly in the top end of an engine and I think you should focus there for this up grade. Get yourself a 600cfm carb or 650,use the intake you have just aquired if you want, a mild cam with around a 212 deg. duration, port match your intake and head ports using a new intake gasket as a referance for the milling, get a new distributor and upgrade the spark with a hotter coil, wires and good quality plugs. Have a 17 degree initial advance on your timing with full advance at around 2600 rpm.(choose your weight springs to achieve this). Install a set of total seal C&Albert rings and mill 10 thousandsof your heads.Use Victor Rentz gaskets as I find these a good quality. I won't go into a bigger build up unless you want more but I'm thinking this is where you want to go. Also install a high flow oil pump for more protection because you can't go wrong there. Hope this is where you wanted to be and good luck.
