Pully fan>electric fan?
Has anyone switched their pully driven fan to an electric fan? If so, what was done and where did you get it?

fan
Hey Ron I did this with that 86 firebird of mine. The car had the 2.8 v6 then I put that 350 in it. I run only an electric fan no pulley fan at all. I like to free as much horsepower up as I can. I got by lucky on mine though because the v6 already had an electice fan installed on the car. The v6 only had the electic fan. So when I installed the 350 I went with a larger radiator and kept the stock electic fan which is a 19 in. This is one of the largest single fans on the market. Your problem is that all trucks that I've seen all run a pulley style fan. What I would try first is measure your radiator. Get the exact length and width. Go to the local junk yard and tell ya you need a fan that long and wide. Tell them you really need a dual fan set up. On the Chevy Lumina's they have a huge dual fan set up. I have one thats how I know. You might want to check the large chevy front wheel drives first. Think about a large engine, front wheel drive car, and there you go a nice fan. This would probably be the cheapest way to go. There's always a performance catalog to go to and order one but there about a hundred or more. With your big block make sure you get a large fan set up. I still would strongly suggest a dual fan setup. I have got my fan wired so that when I turn on the key my fan comes on. It runs all the time. No problem it hasn't gone out and I've run it like that for a long time. You will free up some true horsepower with the electric fan. Good luck.

Yes. I am worried about the life of that fan and how much "cfm" that fan will bring in to cool my Big Block.

The one you found (thanks) has a 1800 cfm, unlike the other that has 5000 cfm. See, how do I find out what cfm my suburban needs?

UPDATE
Well after talking to the guys in the Chevelle forum, they are running 50% Windstar dual electric fan, yep out of a ford windstar OR 50% are running a single fan out of a lincoln mark XIII. Now the ford has a stock 3.8L I guess VS. the lincoln has a stock 4.8L But I am wondering which weights more, as that is a factor too. These fans I am finding for about $139 "they say they are new"
Ron PS. They are putting them into a 454 Chevelle with a/c |
