Power Brakes
Heard on a radio talk show about cars yesterday, that if you are having brake problems after muffler and pipes were installed, that may be your problem - answer next week. But since we were "passing through" that town, we will not hear the answer. This sounds like our problem with you new power brakes because they just do not stop the vehicle; act more like standard brakes. Trying to find someone that may know the answer to this situation and can help. Thanks. Chip.
Note. 1955 Ford F-100 recently restored. Muffler & pipes were the last items on. Could this really affect the power brakes? Can email us @ cms.luttrell@juno.com. Thanks. |

power brakes
if the fluid gets to hot it will boil and then there will be no brakes, thats why Nascar has brake cooling vents on their short track races, if you have ever watched a race and seen a car with a brake problem and it catches fire, Ricky Rudd come to mind the most, There are I think three ratings for brake fluid, the lowest being DOT 3 and going up. This is just one of several possibilties for their remark. The heat of the pipes.

what town and station....maybe someone here can tune it in.
probaly right, where the pipes pass the rear axle, good possibality. getting exhaust pipes too close to a tire can cause a blowout also. |

back pressure
i installed 2-1/2 inch exhaust pipe on a recent project (sbc) and notice a vaccuum change, had to readjust the carb to compensate, it originally had 2 inch exhaust. the reason could also be that the new exhaust is too close to your brake lines, but i would doubt that this is the problem. it most likely has something to do with the power booster(read vaccuum) or when the exhaust was installed the brake line was somehow crimped.
