Another Space Shuttle Explosion

Heres the word from nasa.....

NASA STATEMENT ON LOSS OF COMMUNICATIONS WITH COLUMBIA

A Space Shuttle contingency has been declared in Mission Control, Houston, as a result of the loss of communication with the Space Shuttle Columbia at approximately 9 a.m. EST Saturday as it descended toward a landing at the Kennedy Space Center, Fla. It was scheduled to touchdown at 9:16 a.m. EST.

Communication and tracking of the shuttle was lost at 9 a.m. EST at an altitude of about 203,000 feet in the area above north central Texas. At the time communications were lost. The shuttle was traveling approximately 12,500 miles per hour (Mach 18). No communication and tracking information were received in Mission Control after that time.

Search and rescue teams in the Dallas-Fort Worth and in portions of East Texas have been alerted. Any debris that is located in the area that may be related to the Space Shuttle contingency should be avoided and may be hazardous as a result of toxic propellants used aboard the shuttle. The location of any possible debris should immediately be reported to local authorities.

Flight controllers in Mission Control have secured all information, notes and data pertinent to today's entry and landing by Space Shuttle Columbia and continue to methodically proceed through contingency plans.

News media covering the Space Shuttle should stay tuned to NASA Television, which is broadcast on AMC-2, transponder 9C, C-Band, located at 85 degrees West longitude. The frequency is 3880.0 MHz. Polarization is vertical and audio is monaural at 6.8 MHz. Reporters can also go to any NASA center newsroom to monitor the situation.

I can remember exactly where I was in 1986 and the first tragidy, and I awoke this morning to this news. What a terrible ordel for the families. Truely my heart goes out to all of the family members. The hardest part involving death is felt by the survivers of the lost..

it's not so much the deaths but the suddenness of it, they weren't sick for long a period of time or anything like that and they were coming home

Ohh and one other thing, (I don't want to make you guys angry or anything like that),,, but man, I could not believed that they were thinking that it may have been terrorism,,,omg, now that's something stupid to think, how in the hell there is going to be terrorism in space, now that's just ridiculous. I was surprised that your presindent didn't say that it was Sadamm Hussein who did it. Please don't misunderstand me, I'm not trying to make you guys angry or anything, just giving out my thoughts.

in my opinion

I think and pray that the crew knew nothing was wrong, they had seen Earth and was home. They had only good thoughts of family and died finishing a dream that they worked for their whole life. The real tragedy is for the families.

I remember hearing about it when I got home from my brother's place Saturday morning. I was hung over and heard it on the radio.
For those of us that remember, where were you when you heard the Challenger blew up?? I was in Kindergarten, it was January 1986, or maybe 85, and I got home for lunch, or maybe it was the end of the day cause I only had it for half the day. But I got home and my mom told me and i watched the replay a bunch of times on the t.v.

I was in Michigan

I was towing a car and was at the intersection of Michigan Ave & Shaffeer in Dearborn. I just looked to the sky and said a prayer.

You know there was an isralei man on board when the shuttle fell apart, thats why they thought it was terrorism. they also concluded that the shuttle was too high for a ground to air missle to reach it. More than likely it was the foam the fell of and hit it. on the way back in it heated up and started to fall apart over california.
