Insurance Question

Hey Guys,

My 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 4x4 was just heavily damaged in an accident. A hay truck over-turned on me and my truck at 65 mph! (I'm ok) My truck however suffered a lot of damage. The insurance guy is going to check it out today to see if it's repairable or not.

Here's my question: Do I as the policy holder have the option of not having it repaired? They are never the same after the repairs.

First, glad you are ok. The last time I had a major claim they bought the vehicle from me at blue book price, and offered it back at salvage price within 60 days or something like it. One time before that they just cut me a check to get it repaired or what ever I wanted too. Hope this helped, also that was in Michigan.

Any information helps! I did forget to mention that I live in California. I'll find out later today the outcome of the adjusters results.

Insurance sucks *(ok word??) for me as a teenage male. I pay 2g a year just for mine. My father,mother and sister is not that put together. So that but a big dent in my back account last month. That I was saving for my lane

i pay 1200 once a year. kinda pricey. I believe here in CA you do have the right to not have the repairs made, but then your left with a busted up truck. you will get more money if you fix it and sell it than selling a smashed truck. I assume you are planning on selling since you said ''They are never the same after the repairs''.

probably the best thing to do is get it repaired and sell as was said, if you don't repair it and try to sell you will not get much out of it.

I think you won't be required to disclose that the truck has been wrecked, to a buyer, but the info will probably be on alldata.com if someone wanted to check it out

i think that most insurance/shops post their work somewhere or another, where does carfax and the other car info sites get their info? i think that these reports are mainly for serious damage repair and things like water and lemons etc.

In california you must disclose whether or not the vehicle has a salvage title or not. You can say that it wasnt but you'll be in a heap of trouble if they find out.

It would take alot to total out a 02 4X4 Chevy truck.
When I hear people say that a damaged, or wrecked vehicle is never the same, this means only 1 thing. The repair shop did shoddy work.
I have seen shops take 2 cars, cut them in half (doing away with a wrecked front end on 1 and a wrecked rear end on the other) and put the 2 good halves back together and NEVER know there was a scratch on it.
Keep this in mind.........the insurance company will NOT pay off your truck so that you can buy another one. They will ONLY pay the book value. This means that after you have financed the vehicle, you now owe more on the truck than it is worth.

amen to that, unless you have some great policy that pays double so you can have a new truck i think you'd be stuck. i think that all major repairs have to be reported whether it has a clear title or salvage title or rebuilt title. i think the body shops are required to do this, but i don't know for sure.
