Engine Overhaul

I have an 84 olds cutlass ciera. I need to rebuild the motor but I haven't found any places that have rebuild kits. Does anyone know of a place?

Thanks. But I didn't find one that went to 84. I found 87-91 and I found 92-94. If that will work for an 84. I don't know of any changes they made to the engine between 84 and 87 so I guess it would work.

What engine does it have? I wasnt aware they made the ciera until later in the 80's and it is a front wheel drive. In 84 I think all ya had was the rear wheel drive Culass. I'll check and let ya know

I can find no info on your car. Found lots of info on all the other Cutlasses of the day, the supremes, and Calais. Check your year and make again. I may be wrong but I may be right. That would also explain why you are unable to find a engine Kit

OK Disregard my last post. I found it under Olds Ciera. That is a good thing cause why waste a good name on such a piece of crap. Those guys even have a crappy cutlass fan club.

What engine does your Ciera have? I will help ya find an engine kit. But to be honest, if it was mine I'd junk it and go buy a real Cutlass.

Yeah. I wish I could junk it. I'm only 16 so I have no money to buy a better car and this one gets good gas milage and the insurence is cheap. I only have it so when i can't ride my motorcycle I still have something to get to work. My parents gave it to me so it was free. I'm sure it is an 84' Olds Cutlass Ciera Brougham. It has the 2.5L fuel Injected engine.

What do you mean by have it sniffed. If you mean smogged it was just smogged not to long ago. My dad put like 7 grand in it(don't ask why I have no idea). He put all new struts in it, new brakes, new ignition module, new computer chip, new wheels and tires and the list goes on. It's extreamly gutless too.

engine over haul

Im talking about it is cheeper to buy a hole car than rebuild a 1984 2.5 4 cyl. My info. and best guess the valve job 125.00 + parts, the crank turned at least 100.00, now you need the engine kit my books price is 300.00 + Now you need to bore the block a 4 cyl. x 80 to 100=320 to 400. Now I have spent 825.oo no labor no rental tools, antifreeze, oil ,&(shop supplies). No car for 3 to 4 weeks.
Sniff = EPA test
I mean buy a car after you make shure the engine is worth the effort. YES I mean take the hole car before you buy it to some one and have it tested to your states EPA level. I have been there done it with a free engine IT RUNS GREATE JUST TAKE IT a 1984 3.0 L GM never built a good one . I did it in 1990 w/ 3.0 it cost about 1k for engine alone, and two months of time. Does the RAINE SUIT sound good yet.

I had a 73 Chevelle Malibu SS and the motor ran great but the body looked like crap, it had rust and dents. It was going to be about 5k bucks to just fix the body. It's about $250 to rebuild the engine. I look for cars that have a good body because the motor is easy and cheap to fix. The body is really expensive to work on. Very time consuming too. Unless you have the tools and the training then it's not bad.

Go to Napa web site. They have a rebuild kit for your car.Usually the store price is a little cheaper. This should get you into a price ramge that you can afford. Good Luck. Hope this helps.
