Oil pan gasket

I need to replace the oil pan gasket of my 97 Pontiac Grand Prix GT. I bought one from a good site and I just receive it today with towo cover valve gaskets. I finished to replace the cover valve gasket but for the oil pan gasket it is another story. The Pontiac service man told me that they need to lower about 5 inches the engine, just enough to got a minimum clearance to remove the oil pan. Do you have any other suggestions ?

My question is why would you order a pan gasket from online?

And if the Pontiac service man recommended a certain way to do the job, why question him? Who else would know better?

I bought online because I saved $40 (included the shipping cost and the money currency to !) I ask for other suggestions and isn't because I didn't trust the service man, it is just to know what else can do the job.

Claude, something is missing here. You are asking about an oil pan gasket, correct? And you saved $40.00 by ordering the gasket online, what was the gasket made from?????

You also have omitted words or something because parts of your question(s) don't make sense.
The Pontiac service man said they need to lower what?
And what else can do the job?????

TowTrucks he is from Canada. Probably Quebec. He speaks French and his money is different. 40.00 of his is like 20 dollars of ours. His english is not good but he is trying.

Sorry guys but you're right, my english is not so good. Ok for the $40 of saving (in canadian of course but for me it is enough to buy from California) it include two cover valve gaskets and one "oil pan gasket". At the Pontiac Dealer, it will cost me $80.00 for the cover valve gaskets and another $35 for the oil pan gasket so the total is: $115 canadian. I payed $40 u.s. (or $79 canadian) and it include the shipping ($15).

I want to ask another question, the service man at Pontiac told me that I just need to change the cover valve gaskets and the oil pan gasket. But when I read the bill I saw that they mentionned oil residue in the cooling system. I take a look and I saw some greasy thing, could be a defect head gasket ? If it's that, well GM didn't use good stuff ! My car have only 150,000 km (90,000 miles) and it look that I have to change all the gaskets !

Thanks very much to all of you !
