Riviera Dash Lights

I got a call from someone that said the dash lights on thier 1990 Riviera went out. The dash is completely black. Digital I do beleave. They said that it has a test button on the dash and when they press that, all the lights on the dash light up. I haven't gone to look at it yet. So, could it be a fuse or something more serious?
I'm not gonna have much time to look at it between working nights, going to school, and trying to sleep a little bit, plus it's a 30 min. drive one way. I would like to do a quick trouble shoot and go sleep.
I haven't done much with electric but I know a little. Plus I don't do under dashes well.

Have Test Light, Will Travel

my dads ex GF had a lebaron with that digital dash that would only work when u put the button. there was a short inside the dash that burnt a hole in the board and the whole thing had to be replaced. if it was a fuse it wouldnt get power to even come on with the test button. IF you have confidence take it apart and look for a burn mark somewhere that most likely is the problem

I had an 85 Regal with a digital dash. It never gave a bit of trouble. I also had a 94 Cutlass with a digital dash. It started lighting up the wrong leds. Got steadily worse over 6 months or so. I took it apart and cleaned the connectors (on the circuit boards) I could get to with a pencil eraser. Didn't help a bit. I finally replaced the instrument cluster. Seems like it was about $300. There's not much you can do when they give problems, except replace them.
