Noise near real wheel
I have a 1996 Ford Tbird w/93K miles. When I go over a speed bump (or other bump) I get a "clinking" noise from the driver side rear wheel area. (Actually sounds like a rock in a hubcap but this car does not have hubcaps). I have not had any work done in this area so all the parts are original ie shocks etc. Any idea what the noise might be indicating??
Thanks Mako |

check your shock, the rubber grommets could be worn/missing or could even be a broken shock. just a place to start

check all nuts and bolts for tightness, check wheel lugs for tightness. but most likelyis a shock problem

Check all the connecting points ie. trailing arms ,shocks ,sway bar, exhaust mounts, e brake cables.

Rock in the tire? lol maybe it's a shock gone bad? Could be even a mud flap or a rock in the fender bouncing around

okay...I know I should'nt tell you this but ...take your car sears...tell them you need a rotation and front end inspect..they do this at no charge...while the car is up on the lift.ask the guy to check the rear end....sears has a open door policy...that means you can be right there when they work on the car...I know this sounds kinda crummy making the guy lift the car and remove the tires for you but..hey..it's no big deal...sears pays well and the bennies are real good....I've worked for them for alot of years....

Back from the shop
Just got back from the shop. First they put on new shocks, While driving home I found problem was not fixed. Took car back and they found the problem was the bushings on the rear sway bar were gone on the left side. So they now have to order the parts from Ford.
Sure do hate it when they replace the wrong thing, then fail to properly test. Now I have shocks that really were not needed and have to take the car in another day.. Thanks for all the suggestions by members here Mako |

The problem is, people are to big of a hurry and over look the things in the background. That happens way to often. Buy new un-needed parts and yet the same problem. Hopefully it's just the bushings, Next thing you'll get a new rear end lol.
