Having problems with 96 olds ciera

well, my GF's grandpa bought her this new car(1996 oldmobile ciera 3.1L V6) becouse the crown vic was slowy dieing anyways well to make this story short, shes from NY, he bought this car from Penn. and drive it 1500 to kansas it was in pretty good shape when it got here and about 2 weeks latter started having problems, go o find out it pluged up the catiletic converter (cut off put straight pipe)it went threw 4 batteries and 3 alternators to find out it was the catiletic converter, fried the big motherboard that runs the car(had that replaced), had a new oxygen sensor put on the exust manifold( thought it was the problem, wasent!) and the car still doesent run right, it has a hard idle when it just sits, and the tempeture gage in the car doesent work, the gas gage is screwed up so we always keep it the gas tank full, found out threw kind of inspection that it was in a acedent on the drivers side and the car got repainted, when the catiletic converter was stuffed it choose the weekest cylinder on te car and forced the exust back up the intake( dont know if that hurt the car real bad), put new spark plug wires on it and new spark plugs, the headlights are always on when the car is on(isnt suppose to do that becouse it has a light switch in the car) lets just say this car is ****ed and people i just need help to fix it, so please help me.

first thing i need help on is the idle, when in park, after it heats up, it runs fine then acts like its ganna die, then goes back up so it doesent die and does this over and over till you put it in Drive. can someone please help me.

Get the codes. That will point you in the right direction. Also, get a repair manual.

There is no such thing as a throttle control on that car. Check the fuel pressure regulator for fuel leaking into the vaccum line that runs to it. You can do that by unplugging the vaccum line and idle the engine for up to a half hour while watching for fuel to come out of the pressure regulator.

most car repair manuals you buy except for i think the one you can order from he manufactuaer for $50, arnt thero enuff and most of the time the pictures are from when the car version first came out, just like my dodge Caravan SE 1995, the book shows pictures from like a 90 or 89 and doesent quiet help. i guess ill try to see if i can get a free dionostic somewhere, and ill come back with the answers from it. also i frogot to mention, that when the catilatic converter was stuffed, it fried half the motherboard and thats why all the macanics thought it was the oxygen sensor, exept one. he wont touch it over again. and i think that the dionostic information is crap from new cars that have been wreacked.

I don't see how the catalytic converter had anything to do with the computer. That doesnt make sense. Am I missing something here? The mechanic wont touch it ever again? Is the car haunted or cursed? What kind of stuffing did they use?

No offence man, but I'm having a hard time understanding your replies. Could you use a spell check or something?

Yes i think you are missing something beefy, the catalytic converter was stuffed (most are made with wood, coal, or platinum, don't know what this one was made out of it just was all black with a little hole) meaning, that the car could only breath threw id say about a tooth pick size hole,( this mechanic even showed me) and as you well know, most cars CANT RUN WITH THAT SIZE OF A HOLE, and i mean, aren't most supposed to last as long as a vehicle?, it wouldn't even go up a hill hardly, and to answer your question about the computer, the car was trying to run right with that tiny hole, and it fried half the computer because the computer was telling the engine it was ok, but the truth was i think that it also fried some of computer equipment that tells you what is wrong, it ran fine all the way here, and then like i said 2 weeks later, this crap happened. i told you it was in a wreck on the drivers side, and the mechanic wont touch it because he said he doesn't know what else is wrong and doesn't have the equipment to fix it. AND NO ITS NOT HAUNTED OR CURSED! ill just get the codes and will see, i don't think it will help any at all

if your converter is clogged you need to replace it, the clogged converter should not do anything to the computer-two separate systems. do get the codes and that is a second starting point, with replacing the converter as the first. you don't stuff the converter with anything and if you did you'd probably create enough back pressure to cause the engine to run poorly at best. are you sure that the guy you took it to was a mechanic? there are several people out there that do a little work on cars and claim the title but they aren't

Why replace it?
  • It is the environmentally correct thing to do.
  • because it is required by law.
  • even your local police can bust you for it.
  • Possible Jail time and $10,000 fine involved.
  • I can think of no other reasons.

Danny is one of many here with the ability to help you. I know he read your post very carefully. Your post is very poorly written and your spelling is terrible. You made no effort (and this is obvious because you made every effort when you chose to make a smart aßß comment toward Danny) to make your first post readable or understandable.
Danny tried to help you and all you can do is point out his inability to read your drivel. Maybe nobody else will try.

See I got beat to the punch because I take so much time to make my drivel readable and understandable.
