2001 Malibu flasher relay

Can anyone give me a pointer on how to replace the flasher switch and relay in a 2001 Malibu? The switch and relay are built into one unit and are located ON the dash, to the right of the instrument cluster. I have attempted to remove the dashboard trim and am afraid it will break if I pry on it. I have not been able to locate any screws holding the trim in place. I may be trying to access the relay from the wrong location. I checked a repair manual it didn't give any details on the subject.

Thx

The dash trim is held in with clips. You just need to pull a little harder. Make sure to look in by the instrument cluster and also under the covers on each end of the dash for screws. I can't remember if there are some located there or not.

I know that at least the majority of the dash trim is held in with snap in clips.....maybe the entire trim.

Yes, you are going about it the right way. You have to remove the trim.

Also, make sure the dash trim is at a warm temperature (70F) this will help prevent the trim from cracking due to being cold and brittle.

This was a good thread as my wife had a 2000 and we never did get it fixed. It would buzz when using the signal some times and then work other times. We traded off the car so it is not a problem any longer.

That is what you really need to do with a Chebby. Drive it until the turn signals quit working and get a new one.

They typify (sp?) the term "Disposable"

Beefy......you're a bigger man than I gave you credit for. Let's not forget the car that rusted in the showroom.......the Vega!

Now see.... I loved the Vega...........Take a Vega any Vega, pick a SBC any SBC.........2 weekends later you had a screamer. I think the Vega's main problem was that junk engine and that was nothing a small block couldn't fix.

Most ford guys could say the same thing about the pinto. Let's face it, most american cars built at that time were junk. Until toyota and honda came along to wake the big 3 up. It's sad but true, I think if it weren't for the ricers, who knows what we'd be driving.

it was because of toyota, datsun and honda that the pinto and vega were built, the japanese had fuel efficient cars and detroit saw the market leaning toward them
