3.8 L will not run

hi all I'm back I have a 91 olds 98 regancy with a 3.8 l V6. This is what it did .it started running on 4 cyl's I had no spark to # 5 & 6 it has a coil pack on it (no dist) I had power to the injecters for 5 & 6 so it's getting gas ,So I put a new coil pack and mogual on it and it won't start it sounds like it's out of time. Dose any one know the firing order I put every thing back the way it was is the spark controled by the E.C.M. I have no clue as to why it did that.Could it be the crank senser? The coil pack checked out bad for 5 & 6 so I replaced it .As the beefy would say I should a bought a ford. I also put new platmum plugs and wires on it .It;s got 122000 on it. it ran good after i put the plug and wires on it

WELCOME BACK!

perish the ford purchase thought-lol-did you forget to hook up the power wires to the module? these systems are pretty simple and mostly maintenance free. take the new module and coil packs and have them checked out, remember that new doesn't mean good.

This may sound stupid but it has a coil pack.the posts are marked 1 through 6 and the wires go on the posts in that order rightthe E.C.M controls the firing order right it dosen't say in the book

there is a crank position sensor that tells the coil pack to fire in a predetermined sequence.

Cylinder 1 wire has to go to the #1 post on the coil pack and the same for all the rest of the cylinders. The ECM controls ignition timming and firring order if the wires are on right, but it cannot correct for crossed wires. So make sure you have the cylinder wires going to the correct post on the coil pack.

i just reread over this thread, the car ran on four cylinders before you changed the ign module and won't run after. sounds like your module is defective.

unfortunately electronic parts can look new and be bad, an old saying is that just because it's new doesn't make it good. i hope this old module works and the problem is solved. keep us informed.
