Day 2

I have been a lifelong smoker. For 30 years I have smoked daily. I have smoked store bought cigarettes and roll your owns. Once i woke up drunk in a Jail in Alabama and rolled up a newspaper and tried to smoke that. I can still taste and smell it.

After my recent bout of medical problems I have decided to bite the bullet. I am used to 3 to 4 packs a day and for 2 days now I have had none. My wife, ever supportive, has quit along with me. She smokes 2 packs a day. While I am sitting here in misery I decided to do the math. 6 packs a day @ $3.00 a pack = $18.00 a day X 7 days a week = $126.00 X 4 weeks a month = $504 X 12 months a year = $6048.00

That is $6048.00 a year for cigarettes. What in the hell have I been doing all my life. I don't pay that much for rent.

On a side note, I have become very irritable and I even beat my oldest son up today. I have to admit that it felt good. He didn't like it but he'll get over that.

I'll be glad when all the newness wears off and I am used to nicotine withdrawals. I know they will never go away. But think of what I can do with all that money!

Good for you

I have never smoked and I wont say some thing stupid because I have watched other do it. I will however offer hope and say that my own Mom smoked longer than you and she quit one day over a arguement with my brother about their choice of smoking asporadas, if you know what I mean. She said if you quit I will and she did and he made it a week. That was in the late seventies and she has never smoked since. Good luck and strong thoughts for yor quest are being sent your way.

Well hey thanks! I think what did it for me was my son came home smoking. He knows that many of my health problems are smoking related and still he wants to smoke. Well, now he can't smoke in the house and that is why he got beat up today.

In my opinion it is your house, and more than one home has health issues that require NO SMOKING

beefy

congrats so far, i smoked a couple of packs a day for years and quit cold turkey also. at first the shear will power will seem to be enough but you will have to convince yourself that you are going to do this. cigarettes are an addiction as is any vice and the first step is to realize the addiction and to know that you will be successful because you are more powerful than the addiction.
good luck bro.

$3 a pack? Were up to $4.80 for some marb reds. Best of luck to you. I wasnt terribly addicted but I bought ice breakers mints. They are in a blue round tin that looks like chew. I just ate lots of mints and lots of juicy fruit. all in all, good luck with it, thats some money that could go twards a fun project or somthing.

Ironic

here I am reading this post with a patch on my arm and chewing the Nicorette Gum. it ain't easy. My wife just asked me to get a 9volt battery from my shop. My shop (while heated and insulated) is in the back yard. I thought this would be a good smoke break, but that's cheating isn't it? Besides those little cigars really do stink. Taling about a nicotine OD.

I did have one first thing this morning but none since. ONE DAY AT A TIME

I smoked as a teen but never saw much to it. Then later on after I started driving, and then the price of gas went up to 60 cent a gal. and the cost of a pack on smokes was also about 60 cent. I decided that I would rather have the gal. of gas.

Any idea how much smokes cost here (25 in pack) difference in the buck here too.
Try between $7.50 to $8.00 pending where you go.
I stopped smokin cigarettes a while ago but started smokin those little cigars called Old Port Colts(only about$5.00 and 8 in a pack. It's still smoking no matter how you look at it.

I want to put that money towards my car, more justified.

Beefy, don't give up on kicking the monkey's A**.

It's strange, a bud of mine quit herion(sp) all on his own, but couldn't give up the smokes. At least it was a step in the correct direction.

the lesser of two evils. I see a lot of recovering alchoholics start smoking pack a day when they wernt even smokers in the first place. But I think that has somthing to do with needing a vice.

Congratulations!!!!!!!! Hang in their Beefy, you can do it.

I've already mentioned this in one post, but I was a pack and a half to two packs a day. And I quit cold turkey, that was August the 5th 1979. Beefy you said you beat up your son, well I really did something stupid.

" I GOT MARRIED " on the 10th.

You're going to kill me for saying this, but theirs nothing like lighting up after a good meal or having a cold one. Yes, good ole Budweiser.

Beefy, it's tuff to stop, I had cravings for a month and a half. But I hung in their with my head bouncing off the wall. That was 24 years ago, haven't regreet it one bit.

I did try lighting up about three years later, one drag made me sick as hell.

I heard Ozzie Osborne say he quit crack, alcohol but their was one habit he couldn't stop, and that was smoking.

That's how strong this addiction is. But I and everyone here, are pulling for ya.

BTW, I think Ozzie still takes a sip now and then, he has to do something, every time you see him on TV, he looks like he's in never never land.
