Just think of all the rip-offs we've had over the last couple of years.
1) We've all wined and complained about our insurance rip-off one of the highest profit making businesses in the world and they keep raising rates and will find ANY excuse to raise your rates if you part your hair the wrong way.

2) Electric power. I don't know about you guys but our hydro electric power bills have been sky rocketing due to supply and demand. On;ly now after severe shortages are they noiw building new power plants. We have several nuclear plants but shut them down because of the cost of rebuild (bunch of sucks anyways)

3) We've had our share of drought over the passed couple of years and of course every year the city comes out with more excuses to raise our water bills. My power and water are on the same bill (PUC) and we were just shy $400 for two months.

4) gasoline. Who really knows the truth? The last New Orleans episode may have a lot of merit, but what's the real truth behind previous increases.

All of these categories are essential to our every day way of life and if we don't like things, ...well we can do without. No one is forcing us to buy or consume these products.

One really wonders if government think tanks impliment these practices to help balance out consumption. A super power that control the very economic engines that we thrive on.

Humanity can get caught up in its own speed of moving forward.
We're all guilty to some extent. Like fishing from a pond that only has so many fish and then that perverbial bus load of fishermen are dropped off the drain the basin. We all want our cars and fast transportaion. In the mean time we're poking hole in the Ozone layer. We acknowledge but we continue to ignore. The think tanks are trying to out smart the consumer and slow us down. The pocket is the best place to curtail any activity.

Just a thought.

Three weeks ago I get a phone call from a guy in Oakville and he tells me he got my card from a friend of mine and that I may be interested in this Corvair he has. he describes the car to me and it is the V8 you originally found.
Turns out the guy built the car many years back and not long ago it was stollen. he recently got a call from the Police that they had found his car. he is looking for a good home for the car.
He is going to e-mail me a few pictures of it and as soon as I get a free day we are going to take a look at it.

when I see it I will let you know how I made out.

Thanks
Wow, that seems kind of Ironic that it was stolen, considering we were window shopping right around the same time. But he left it open as tho he didn't care about it. Kind of an open invite, kind of an inside job? And why did he not respind back then. Did he not say it was sold, leaving us to believe we missed the boat? It all sounds a little fishy , huh?

if you do get it, this car will now have history attached to it.
PS I must have missed you post previously when I was traveling or I would have responded. Sorry dude.

Keep me posted if you get it.

Some perspective on the costs of things.

"Remember 1957?"

The following were some comments made in
the year 1957:

(1) "I'll tell you one thing, if things keep going the
way they are, its going to be impossible to buy
a weeks groceries for $20.00."

(2) "Have you seen the new cars coming out
next year? It won't be long when $5,000 will
only buy a used one."

(3) "If cigarettes keep going up in price, I'm going
to quit. A quarter a pack is ridiculous."

(4) "Did you hear the post office is thinking about
charging a dime just to mail a letter?"

(5) "If they raise the minimum wage to $1, nobody
will be able to hire outside help at the store."

(6) "When I first started driving, who would have
thought gas would someday cost 29 cents a gallon.
Guess we'd be better off leaving the car in the garage."

(7) "Kids today are impossible. Those ducktail hair
cuts make it impossible to stay groomed. Next thing
you know, boys will be wearing their hair as long as
the girls."

(8) "I'm afraid to send my kids to the movies any
more. Ever since they let Clark Gable get by with
saying '****' in 'Gone With The Wind,' it seems
every new movie has either 'hell' or '****' in it."

(9) "I read the other day where some scientist thinks
it's possible to put a man on the moon by the end of
the century. They even have some fellows they call
astronauts preparing for it down in Texas."

(10) "Did you see where some baseball player just
signed a contract for $75,000 a year just to play ball?
It wouldn't surprise me if someday that they will be
making more than the President."

(11) "I never thought I'd see the day all our kitchen
appliances would be electric. They are even making
electric typewriters now."

(12) "It's too bad things are so tough nowadays. I
see where a few married women are having to work
to make ends meet."

(13) "It won't be long before young couples are going
to have to hire someone to watch their kids so they
can both work."

(14) "No one can afford to be sick any more, $35.00
a day in the hospital is too rich for my blood."

(15) "I'm just afraid the Volkswagen car is going to
open the door to a whole lot of foreign business."

(16) "Thank goodness I won't live to see the day
when the Government takes half our income in
taxes. I sometimes wonder if we are electing the
best people to Congress."

(17) "The drive-in restaurant is convenient in nice
weather, but I seriously doubt they will ever catch on."

(18) "I guess taking a vacation is out of the question
now days. It costs nearly $15.00 a night to stay in
a hotel."

I know, remember the tracking I did? I had to go through the neighbor's to get the right info.
The owner runs a business in Oakville and rents out the house I was at. Therefore, he parked the Vair at the house, right out front.

Like I said, a little too suspicious. IMO, I think the guy submitted a claim for the car "got it back" and still selling it. He may be a sheister. You can tell whether he has any vested interest in the car or whether he's a scam artist.

I was ten years old. A bottle of Coke was 10 cents, bread was 25 cents. Cigarettes (when I was a tender youngunn) were 25 cents. Gas (Canadian Gallon, slightly larger than US gal. wasabout 0.37/gallon (maybe less)
The list goes on and on many my age and many that are older can recall many more prices. Furniture clothing and cars.

So, who's to blame? stock market traders? Consumers? Greedy manufacturers? Middle men (warehousings and shipping costs?) or you and me?

It wasn't appropriate to do this in the obituary thread, so I'll do it here.
