You mean you don't consider these very nice? I thought I was particular.

Sorry, I don't.

Remember.. I'm the one who's rebuilt, reworked, replaced, bled, sweated, cussed, laid under/on/over, sanded, painted, chromed, unbolted/bolted/unbolted again, and a few other things over the years so I know what's it taken just to get to the point I am which isn't even close to what I want it to be.

I understand where you're coming from. When you restore something yourself, you tend to see and know where every minor flaw is. I've come to realize that the more I work on something, the less likely it will be finished. There's always something to change or upgrade. That's what makes it a fun hobby.

Personally, the American Racing D-Spokes (Torq Thrusts) always looked, and will look better than Cragars to me. The Torq Thrust II's are a nice restomod look as well.

And they don't rust...

The Torq Thrusts are very nice wheels also. But, that would be my 2nd choice. That's what makes this country great, we have a choice.

Sorry.

To me those Torq thrust wheels are way over exposed.

Just this past weekend if we didn't see them on just about ecvery single vehicle at the cruise in we went to saturday evening, then it was close.

People have even told me to put them one my cars, but no way. I want something different.

Some people would say the same thing about cragars, but I wouldn't. Make it look like you want it to look I always say.

Oh I'm sure you're right.

I can agree on your comment about "Making it look like you want it."

If all vehicles looked exactly the same with the same wheels just think how boring it'd be.

Are all of the Cragar SS's all steel? They used to be, right?

Mine are. I don't know if the larger sizes (18"-20") are aluminum or not.

I think the 17" may be, or at least a composite. Not all steel like the 14 & 15" SS wheels are.

Any that I've ever owned were steel.

A co-worker has the 17" on a '69 Camaro he owns & shows.
I'll take a magnet with me and see if it sticks to his wheels?

I tried the cragar website and it was useless as far as getting material info.

I had checked there the other day, and saw that the Classic SS is a "Composite" Composite what I wondered. There is a Forged Alloy updated Cragar S/S.

Anyway, my thought is that the older S/S's were a steel rim mounted to a cast or forged center. My general dislike on the Classic S/S's are mostly the following two things:

1. Rusting - The outer rim seemed to rust on many, and the spokes seemed like they pitted and flaked.

2. Weight - For performance, reduced weight is my goal.

My 2C's

Two things I like about Cragar SS Rims:
  • They have been around since the 50's.
  • They look awesome on some cars. (Like my old 64 Ford Van.)

Two things I dislike about Cragar SS Rims:
  • They have been around since the 50's and are a little "dated".
  • They only look awesome on some cars. (Like my old 64 Ford Van.)
