Drag Racing
Hey everyone. I plan on taking my car to the local Drag strip tomorrow, just to see what kind of times, speed,(etc) it runs compared to everyrone else. I'm not intending to actually race, since the car is far from perfect... It is a 1992 Chevy Camaro, 3.1L V-6, Fuel injected, no posatraction, and is completley stock. It was weighed in at 3620 pounds with a completley full tank of gas (12 gallons) and with me inside. I plan on using premium gas, with 1/4 tank to keep the weight down. Can anyone tell me what a DECENT 1/4 mile time and mph would be with thosee specs? It is also supposed to be 110 degrees out there tomorrow...

Don't use premium unless you owners manual tells you to. It will hurt your performance. It burns to slow.
Make sure you load it up against the converter at the line. As to times I couldn't begin to tell you. Don't expect much unless that puppy is blown.

Like Beefy said, don't use Premium (unless your engine pings, and if it does this would actually indicate other problems). I think your time would probably be in the 16's. (alot of how you do will be determined by how good you drive.) Good luck and don't break anything.
ps And of course, let us know how you do.

I'm back
Hello. Thanks for the help. I'm already back from the track. It goes all darn day and half the night out there. I got there early enough that I was able to go one solo run, at 17.006 seconds. My first "race" was aganst a Dodge Viper, with mods up the ying-yang. Needless to say, I got killed. I ran a 16.835, 74.693 mph at the line. I lost by over 3 seconds. The next run I was up aganst a Chevy s10 pick-up, which had to have mods, too, because of so many extra gagues on the dash and a-pillar. I ran a 17.239 (my fault for a bad time... I spun the tires getting going...) and 73.6?? at the line, but I couldnt believe this... I won by 0.025 seconds!!! I honestly had no clue who won, Because I looked over, and he hit the line the same time as me. If it wasnt for the papers they give us on the return road, I still wouldnt know...
Well anyways, I ran in the high 16 second bracket all day, and got killed every time, except the second run. The car did way better than I expected. I would have been thrilled if it ran 18 seconds, and 65 mph, based on how it has run driving around town since I got it, but then again, I guess doing all the work on it myself was another plus...
