I just heard that Johnny Carson passed away earlier today at age 79. He died of Emphysema. He was a very good actor and a very funny man and a good host on the tonight show for 30 years. Even though he hasnt been in the public eye much anymore he will be missed. My prayers go out to his family and friends.

That's a shame, he will be sorely missed. I just happen to be looking in yahoo.com for something and saw the headlines. Here's some information if anyone's interested about his career. Johnny Carson goodbye Johnny.

I followed his show for years. His own antics made me laugh (just being goofy) NO OTHER talk show host has being able to fill his shoes or even come close. Johnny was one of a kind.

I always looked forward to Johnny being a guest on another show but that never transpired, as he claimed never to return for interviews. He said when he retired he would get out of it completely, and so he did. While Johnny was the best of the best, he was known to be a shy person.

My wife and I will miss him big time. Another icon gone. I was truly shocked when I heard the news, always hoping for that interview never to be done.

Thanks Johnny, for enriching our lives. It was guys like you that opened up our new trends and borders of humor and still keep it clean.

Johnny you were definately da-man.

Johnny was all class, that is for sure. Stayed up with my parents and watched him for years. Always liked him. There is not a current talk show host, day or night, that could even shine his shoes, let alone fill 'em.

I've been following a lot of coverage about Johnny mostly on CNN Larry King. Local coverage has been constant. Many might think it's too much but if you think about it Johnny gave us all a lot as he was a TV pioneer and then a legend. If nothing else it really provides great closer for all of old Johnny fans. We'll have to let go eventually as he'll become an addition for the halls of fame.

The younger crowd might not see him in the same light that a few of us older people did. I suppose this is just my final salute.

I watched Leno tonight and they paid tribute to him. It was sad and yet it was funny also. 30 years, I would say it was a very good show. I don't believe anyone else will ever do what he did for that length of time.

I think Jay is leaving in a year or so, Letterman has about 20 years in. He might pull it off, I like them both. But they will never be a show the way Johnny done it.

And yes, we'll have to let go because life goes on. He's still with us though, we'll never forget.

Leno is leaving in 2009. Conan takes over at that point. Letterman could leave tomorrow or 10 years from now. Carson and Letterman are so eerily close in the way they are in real life it's scary. Both are very private in their personal life, and both were never happier than when they were doing their show. Personally, I like Letterman over them all, but I grew up with Johnny. I Tivo Dave every night and was curious to see how he would handle Johnny's passing, but I read on Letterman's newsletter that he's in repeats all this week. I give Leno kudos for his tribute show last night. Good night Johnny and thank you.

Yep, and as much of a car guy that Leno is, he just does not stand up next to Carson, or even Letterman.

I heard rumor that Carson was sending Letterman material to use when challenging Leno for the Tonight Show spot.

True about Letterman and his personal life.

Leno seemed too "staged" last night on the tribute or whatever to Carson. Like he usually does in his jokes, he would jump from conversation to the skit, and try to trick us into thinking that they just happened to be talking about a skit that they were planning on playing for us. Yeah, right. We are not that stupid, Jay.

He reminded me of the way he was after 9/11. Fortunately Letterman returned to the air first, then Leno went back on, but Leno seemed too rehearsed/stiff.

The week Dave went back on after 9/11 really impressed me. He seemed pretty close to the level of genuine class that Johnny had.

Oh, and after all these years, Jay still repeats his punch lines. Sometimes not just two, but three times.

And it seems the worse the joke, the more he repeats the line.

Dave was great the week after 9/11. Maybe being in New York had something to do with it.

On last weeks shows, Dave mentioned that Johnny watches the shows and even sends Dave jokes from time to time. He said Johnny got a kick out of it when Dave would use one.

Thanks. Could not remember what that was about Johnny that was mentioned last week, so did not bring it up anywhere. Now I remember.
