Fast enough to kill you, your passengers and anybody else in the vicinity. Take it to the track and find out. That is the only way you will find out exactly how fast it is.

what is your motive to find the top speed of your car? it will go faster than the posted speed limits in most areas. please don't test the top speed where there is a possibility that you might damage something or kill someone(public streets)-even yourself. as was stated before take it to a track and test it and good luck.

Then a safe driver takes his or her's car to a place were the other unsafe drivers are not in the way. You will give up street racing when you a friend or someone you know git's killed. Anything can happen toy you miss a shift and blow a engine and the rod comes through the block out through the shindle and out through the rim. And he was doing 130. If he had not been in a true race car were do you think he would be at. And I say again street racing is not safe..

Don't think an 88' 305 is going to get you a lot of "bragging rights". The most powerful 88' engine I can find is 230HP ( http://www.phy.duke.edu/~hartley/iroc/iroc_specs.html ). With Overdrive, your top speed should be OK unless you hit a limiter on the computer. Check this out:
http://www.thirdgen.org/newdesign/tech/unlimited.shtml - this states a 115MPH top speed limit if your using the stock ECM.

not trying to be an azz or anything here, but if your speedometer goes to 85 how will you know your speed above 85 unless it is recorded by radar? radar usually indicates that a separation of money is inevitable. sorry i could not answer your question with a definate number.

Any bragging by saying it should do this, or the book says this, is just that. Take it to a Test and Tune to see.

I'm post on another forum as well as this one. Not a car forum. One of our topics is about safe driving. We cover everything. many on there can't understand how I can be an advocate of safe driving then in the same sentence talk about high horse power machines EG 1,000HP or 2,000HP and on up and to achieve low ET's.
I tell them it's all about respect for the machine and it's build capabilities, not so much about what the driver can do. Many types of racing are opposite to that.

Some of my other posters on that forum tend to think that racing and hotrods and high horsepower go hand in hand with street racing and ignorant driving. I told them that I'm sure there are few out there that do drive like that, but most highperformance car owners have that element of respect, for themselves, their cars and the public. I also explained there's different breeds of hotrodders. Don't let one bad or irresponsible person label the rest as bad.

It's all our obligation here to maintain that image.

That is correct Porkie. 2 weeks ago we lost a young man who hit a big truck. He was doing 100 MPH plus, lost control and slid into the truck. The truck driver drove into a steep ditch trying to avoid this accident. The young man (Justin, age 20) was driving a Ford Escort. It was no contest. The inpact was so forceful that both fuel tanks were knocked off of the truck and a fire resulted. The truckdriver and his co-driver were injured as well.

I have done stupid stuff like this myself and it is a miracle I never wrecked. Actually, I did wreck once due to speed (70) in a 35 MPH corner and a tire that blew. I destroyed a very nice 79 Cutlass and had to have my ear sewn back on because it got ripped off.

This stuff is fairly accurate. The computers stock chip limits at 115 but will start pulling out dwell in the timing and speed starts to drop off at 112.

There is very little difference in the HO version 305 internally other that a very slight variation in the cam and air cleaner assembly The TPI 305 rated at 212 hp was the better preformer.

In the Camaro options there was a preformance package and appearence package. The RS was appearence and the Z28 and Z28/IROC-Z and IROC-Z were both. Starting in 1985 any speedometer that registered over 85 mph had what they called a performance differential which could have been a Positrac or different ratio other than the 2.73. My IROC has a posi and a 2.73 cog in it so it got the higher registering speedo.

Was it any faster ???? Most likely not.

Take your car to a track for a straight line speed test with all the safety gear and precautions, duct tape the bejeezes out of it, air up the tires to a safe max inflation and you might see 120 out of it.......Just for bragging rights.

If I were you I'd pick a number out of the air, put on some performance mods and keep 'em guessing.

I love the power that my Sebring has a couple of years ago the kids and I had gone to a Halloween party at my cousins house..............she lives almost to Ohio in a town called Maybee........any way my son forgot part of his costume out there so i had to make the drive back out to get it......It was a sunday morning and i was just cruising along and i noticed i was almost there I couldnt believe how short a time it had taken me.............I looked down at my speedometer and I was doing 95 didnt even realize it. Well since it was Sunday morning and there were no other cars around i decided to see what i could get it up too..........i got up to 120 before i decided i better not press my luck safety wise or pass a cop. Thats the only time i have done that and like i said the freeway was deserted and it was a straight strech i was on..............i was psyched.............I love that car and i am really going to miss it when i eventually do have to replace it.
