what is the proper torque for chevy small block head bolts? (350)

i torqued mine center to out at about 90ftlbs

i think it's somewhere between 60 and 70 ft. lbs. like 65

Torque them things down to 90fpt and you'll separate or crack the valley half way down the cylinder. 90 is way too much.

danny's advice is what the factory recommends and the head gasket manufacturer may have some additional advice.

65 pounds is pretty accurate. But I cannot emphasize enough on how much one needs a manual just for this particular purpose.

The thing I don't understand with questions like this is, all you have to do is go to google and type in "small block chevy torque specs" and not only do you have the torques specs but the correct sequence to tighten them in less keystrokes than the original question.

Maybe he was also fishing for what happened if you over did it......

The manual doesn't always tell you that......I had to witness it a couple times to see the effect of over torque to a head bolt will do to the cylinder block. Unless of course you have a Bowtie block that has the meat built in to the block in this area.

We all don't posess that extra brain cell that tells you to go look......Mine was killed years ago from the smell of burnt racing fuel....

Or maybe it was the Jack Daniels ???
